Pierro x Karata (filly)

Lot 237 - Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale, offered by Daisy Hill Farm

TDN AusNZ: How did you decide on this particular mating?

Daisy Hill: We always liked the look of Pierro over Karata as she’s a daughter of Let’s Elope and her sires dam was Circles Of Gold, two of the best of their generation. She was bred just after Pierro had these two weeks where he was producing what felt like a winner everyday along with an Oaks winner. It is now a proven cross, Pierro over Danehill (USA)-line mares.

TDN AusNZ: What was the foaling down like and initial comments on the foal?

Daisy Hill: She was our last mare to foal that year and was very straight forward.

TDN AusNZ: What was the horse like as a weanling?

Daisy Hill: We’ve had a lot of confidence about her. We did put her through the weanling sales last year, Pierro was on fire and we had another Pierro filly born on the same day so we thought we’d test the market. She didn’t bring what we thought she was worth, so we brought her home. She’s turned into a nice filly and I’m confident we made the right call.

TDN AusNZ: How is the horse handling prep so far? Does it have a nickname? Particular traits/personality?

Daisy Hill: She’s the only filly in the draft, so she thinks she’s all that. We call her Kimmy K, she’s a bit sassy, not overly tall and has a big ass.
