Pedigree Boosters

In the build up to the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, we will pick out three yearlings each day who have had substantial pedigree updates in the past couple of months.

Today, we look at how winners at Canterbury and Kensington boosted the pedigrees of their siblings, while a recent Sandown placegetter added an important note on her full brother's pedigree page.

Lot 292 - Super One x Wild Soiree (USA) - Offered by Newgate Farm

This filly is already from a smart family, with her dam Wild Soiree (Fusaichi Pegaus) a half-sister to Musidora (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}, who is stakes winner in her own right and has produced Tulip (Pierro) and Sacred Eye (High Chaparral {Ire}).

Four of Wild Soiree's progeny had already won races, including five-time winner Federal Court (Star Witness) before Friday night when 2-year-old My Fire Phoenix (The Factor {USA}) won on debut at Canterbury for trainer John Sargent. That filly was a $45,000 Classic Sale buy.

Lot 208 - Fastnet Rock x Tavarnelle - Offered by Coolmore

This colt's full sister Lacazette made her debut at Sandown last Wednesday and acquitted herself well, finishing second, beaten by a filly which may be headed toward Group 1 races in the autumn. The older full brother Justice Glory is already a winner in Australia and Singapore.

It's a pedigree which already has black type via the dam Tavarnelle (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}) a Group 3 winner from the family of Singapore star Zirna (Deputy Governor), who produced the Group 3 winner Crafty Irna (Starcraft).

Lot 871 - Written Tycoon x Octavia - Offered by Yarraman Park

Ljungberg (I Am Invincible) romped to a 3.8l win at Kensington on Saturday and while we won’t see him on the Gold Coast this year, we will see his half sister by Written Tycoon, who is up for sale on Saturday night.

They are both out of Octavia (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}), the multiple stakes-winning mare who is out of a daughter of Paklani (Haulpak), who has been responsible for a wealth of stakes-winners and stakes-producers.
