Group 2 Perth Cup, Perth

Race Summary:

Star Exhibit (Statue Of Liberty) upstaged stablemate Action (Pierro) to give owners Bob and Sandra Peters a history-making win in the TABtouch Perth Cup.

Action appeared to have the Cup in his keeping when he hit the front at the 150m, but Star Exhibit kept on attacking, gaining the upper hand inside the final 50m.

Prize Catch (Zoffany) finished two lengths away in third, with the second favourite Mississippi Delta (High Chaparral) missing out on a placing in fourth.

Pedigree Notes:

Star Exhibit hails from one of Bob Peters' best families. She is from Star Encounter (Jeune {GB}), a listed winner in her own right who has produced stakes-winners Perfect Jewel (Redoute's Choice) and Royal Star (Redoute's Choice), who both also contested this race.

Star Encounter's dam Lady Ashford, who Peters bought for $130,000 as yearling, produced Galaxy Queen (Jeune {GB}), the dam of G1 Railway S. winner Galaxy Star (Redoute's Choice). She also produced stakes-placed Favourite Star (More Than Ready {USA}), the dam of Listed winner Enticing Star (Testa Rossa), who was runner-up in the G1 Winterbottom S. last month.

Group 3 La Trice Classic, Perth

Race Summary:

Celebrity Dream (NZ) (Thorn Park) collected her fifth stakes success with relative ease, winning the Group 3 Mrs Mac's La Trice Classic at Ascot.

William Pike settled Celebrity Dream just off the pace in her first try over the 1800m and the extra distance posed no concerns as she raced clear to beat Fontainbleau (Alfred Nobel {Ire}) by 2l, with Mouquet (Viscount) third.

The six-year-old mare made it back-to-back wins in the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic in December, while she has also won the 2017 Jungle Mist Classic and the 2017 Starstruck Classic at stakes level.

Pedigree notes:

Celebrity Dream was a $260,000 Karaka purchase and is from the excellent producer Our Valpolicella (NZ) (Red Ransom {USA}), a Group 3 winner who has also produced Group 2 winners Catalonia (also Villanova) (Commands) and Vavasour (Redoute's Choice).

She hails from the family of G2 winning mare Dopff (Tights {USA}), who is a half-sister to Rizon and Ready To List and is the granddam of stakes winning pair Pussy Willow and Pussy O'Reilly.

Listed Summer Scorcher H., Perth

Race Summary:

Misty Metal (Oratorio) showed too much speed for her rivals to win the Listed Furphy Summer Scorcher at Ascot.

The Robert and Todd Harvey trained 4-year-old mare collected her second piece of black-type in the past three months, jumping to the front in the 1000m dash, seeing off the early challenge of Gee Boss (Street Boss {USA}) and then charging clear with The Celt (Planet Five) running into second late on.

Misty Metal, now a winner of nine of her 17 starts, had won the Listed Jungle Mist Classic in November before being beaten in the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic last month.

Pedigree Notes:

Bred and raced by the Piper family, Misty Metal is out of Rubitawny (Rubiton), who won three of her nine career starts and has produced just one other colt to race, the one-start maiden Minika, who is a full sister to Misty Metal.

Rubitawny also has a weanling colt by Oratorio and went back to the stallion again this season. There is also a 2-year-old colt by Red Hot Choice.

Listed Marton Cup, Awapuni

Race Summary:

Sampson (NZ) (Dubai Destination {Ire}) claimed his third stakes win with a strong finishing victory in the Listed Gallagher Marton Cup (2200m) at Awapuni.

The 9-year-old, previously a winner of the G2 Awapuni Gold Cup and the G3 Trentham S, proved too strong late on under Johnathan Parks to mark win No.10 from his 61-start career.

Trainer Howie Matthews said Sampson would now contest the G3 Wellington Cup, a race he has twice previously run placings in.

Pedigree Notes:

Sampson, a $20,000 yearling purchase back in 2011, is out of Magic Star (Danzero), who has two stakes-winners to her credit, with Miss Upstart (Snippetson) also a Listed winner.

She has produced four other winning foals and is a half-sister to multiple group winner Make Mine Magic (Canadian Silver).
