Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two exciting runners are set to hit the track across Australia on Good Friday, including a Starspangledbanner filly that is ready to win at her third start and a Per Incanto (USA) 2-year-old debutant at Cranbourne.

Cranbourne, Race 1, 5.40pm AEDT, RW Hygain 2YO Mdn Plate, $40,000, 1300m

Inkaantoon (NZ), 2-year-old filly (Per Incanto {USA} x Kaatoon {NZ} {Kaapstad {NZ}})

The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained Inkaantoon (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}) will travel to Cranbourne on Friday to make her debut over 1300 metres in the hands of jockey Will Price.

Inkaantoon is the eighth foal from the Kaapstad (NZ) mare Kaatoon (NZ), who was a four-time winner and her wins included in the G2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic and the G3 Lowland S.

She has had four foals to race and has had two winners, including the four-time winning and Group-placed Aotearower (NZ) (Shamardal {USA}) and the winner Cottenham (Redoute’s Choice). Kaatoon is also a sister to the Group-placed Black Panther (NZ) (Kaapstad {NZ}) and a half-sister to the Listed-placed Cross Roads (NZ) (Cape Cross {Ire}).

Inkaantoon was a NZ$110,000 purchase by Dalziel Bloodstock/Moody Racing from the draft of Woburn Farm at the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale.

Cranbourne, Race 2, 6.15pm AEDT, Hertz Mdn Plate, $40,000, 1000m

The Doll, 3-year-old filly (Starspangledbanner x Palomita {Ger} {High Chaparral {Ire}})

The well-bred The Doll (Starspangledbanner) is set to have her third start over 1000 metres for Pakenham-based trainer Michael Huglin at Cranbourne on the back of two very promising runs over the same distance leading up to this race.

The Doll is a daughter of the globetrotting sire Starspangledbanner and is out of Palomita (Ger) (High Chaparral {Ire}). She was a four-time winner in Germany on the track and her wins included Listed success in the Grosser Preis von Rossmann.

She has left three individual winners including the three-time winner Part Time Lover (Zoustar), the four-time winner Writey O’Pal (Written Tycoon) and Atlantic Seas (Written Tycoon).

Palomita, since producing The Doll, has left a 2-year-old filly named I Am Looking (I Am Immortal), as well as yearling and foal fillies both by Dirty Work.

The Doll was a $25,000 purchase by Diamond Park Breeding and Racing from the 2021 Inglis Digital August (Late) Online Sale.

Looking Back

Wizards (Fastnet Rock) was a very impressive winner at Hawkesbury, winning with plenty still in the locker, he looks like a promising staying-type in the making.

At Pakenham on Thursday, Nakoa (USA) (War Front {USA}) ran home well and continued to take ground off the winner right to the wire, ultimately finishing second, beaten 1.25l. Earlier at the same meeting, Tertulia (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) was disappointing racing over ground for the first time finishing fifth.
