'He is a lovely, powerful-looking horse'

During the stallion parades this year, we will be asking some well-known industry participants to give their thoughts on the day. First-up is Magic Millions' Victoria and Tasmania Manager, Tim Brown who spent the afternoon at Rosemont Stud.

After a few years off, it was nice for the stallion parades to get back into full swing. It’s always great to join up with people at this time of year before the breeding season and chat about a few things, which we did miss during those years where having the parades was not possible.

It was a brilliant day at the Rosemont Stallion parade and while the weather wasn’t that kind to us, it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of everybody there.

Hanseatic has made up into a lovely, powerful horse and he looked fantastic. He is well put together. He’s fast-looking and he was obviously a very good racehorse.

Their new boy Extreme Warrior is very attractive and I have no doubt he will be popular among the Victorian breeders. Th stallion will obviously cover his first book of mares this spring. While he’s not an overly big horse, he is physically very nice-looking and he paraded extremely well. He’s a son of a very good stallion in Extreme Choice and he’s the only one of his sons standing in Victoria at the moment and that gives the breeders in the state a brilliant opportunity to get into that Extreme Choice line.

Shamus Award needs very little in the way of introductions, but he is a lovely horse who is leaving good stock and you can see why.

Strasbourg is also a nice type and I have been very impressed with the yearlings I have seen by him so far, so that’s exciting for the stud.

It was well-supported by industry leaders from Victoria, with the likes of Peter Moody, Jamie Kah, Mick Price, Mick Kent Jnr, Danny O’Brien and Luke Wilkinson all being there. It was nice to hear the former trainers speak about the stallions they used to train. When you get all those industry trainers there it is always going to be a good day, they all spoke very well.

Rosemont has worked hard over the years to get some nice stallions at the stud and have built it up and the system seems to be working well. Ryan McEvoy is a big part of the team there, as is of course Anthony Mithen and Nigel Austin, who is a very passionate breeder; they all work very hard. It is one of the most forward-thinking studs in Victoria and we are lucky to have them in the state supporting the industry with nice stallions.

Rosemont in general are doing a great job, not only with the stallions, but also with things like the Victoria Alliance where they are trying to purchase future stallions, trying to provide for the future and it’s good to see it going well.
