G3 Western Australian Oaks, $250,000, 2400m

What a way to break a maiden, Lady Chant (War Chant {USA}) at just her fourth start relishing a step up in distance to out-stay her more fancied rivals.

In the placings at her first three starts in maiden company, Lady Chant is a homebred for Yarradale Stud out of their Woodlands Stud-bred mare Verse (Quest For Fame {GB}), who did not make the track having been unplaced in her only public trial.

Doing a better job at stud, Verse has been well-represented by eight winners with Lady Chant being her second stakes winner - her first being the triple Group winner Lamasery (Commands).

Also dam of the Metropolitan winners Busker's Ballad (Street Cry {Ire}), Rivalled (Commands) and Spun Dry (Hard Spun {USA}), she is a half-sister to the dual Group 1 winner Anthems (Palace Music {USA}) and the Listed Black Opal Preview winner Vocalist (Bluebird {USA}) - dam of the triple Group 1 winner Yell (Anabaa {USA}) and the Listed winner Sung (Anabaa {USA}) who is in turn dam of the G1 ATC Sires' Produce S.-winning stallion Microphone (Exceed And Excel).

Not served last spring having foaled a full sister to Lady Chant in early October, Verse can also boast amongst her relations Australia's reigning Champion Sire Written Tycoon (Iglesia).

Lady Chant is the 45th stakes winner for her Yarradale Stud-based sire, winner of the G1 Breeders' Cup Mile.

Listed Melvista S., $125,000, 2200m

The G2 Western Australia Derby-bound Alaskan God (Playing God) was impressive in this lead-up, doing a great job recording his fourth win from four starts this time in.

Beaten only once (unplaced at his debut in a Northam maiden last spring) in five starts, the exciting 3-year-old is a $90,000 graduate of the 2020 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale - bred by Mungrup Stud and purchased by Morton Racing.

The seventh stakes winner for his Darling View Thoroughbreds-based sire - twice a winner of the G1 Kingston Town Classic - Alaskan God is out of the placed Lady Alaska (Reset), half-sister to the dual Group winner Great Glen (Regal Classic {Can}) out of the multiple city-winning mare Great Manners (Rubiton).

A descendant of the influential broodmare Schiparaelli (GB) (Schiavoni {GB}), Alaskan Gold can also boast amongst his relations the G1 Al Quoz Sprint winner Amber Sky (Exceed And Excel) and the Group winners Ticket To Rome (At Talaq {USA}) and Truly Wicked (Rubiton).

Alaskan God provides a pedigree first - the only stakes winner line-bred to Rubiton (Century), and closely too - 3 X 3.
