New Guineas path for Jamaea

Jamaea's (Headwater) new path to the R. Listed Magic Millions 3YO Guineas will now be through a trial Tuesday after being scratched from last Saturday‘s Listed Nudgee S. at Doomben.

The smart filly is favourite for the $2 million feature, but trainers Robert and Luke Price elected to scratch her due to the wet track on Saturday.

She will now tackle her target race first-up with a trial to tune her up ahead of the January 15 assignment.

“We were happy with the decision to scratch because it would have done her more damage than good I think,” co-trainer Luke Price told Racenet.

“It was the last race of the day so the track was pretty chopped up and we had a good chat to Tommy (Berry) and we were all on the same page.

“She has been nominated for the trials at the Gold Coast on Tuesday so hopefully the rain doesn't stuff that up. We will keep the options open.”

Kobayashi breakthrough

Aquis sire Kobayashi has his first winner after the victory of Midnight In Tokyo at Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

Midnight In Tokyo, trained by Kacy Fogden and running in the Fung family colours, proved too strong on debut in the 1000 metre maiden, defeating Floral Oasis (Not A Single Doubt) by 1.3l.

The Aquis homebred gets her sire, a stakes-winning son of I Am Invincible, who stands for $3300 (inc GST), a winner with his fourth starter.

Winner number 27 for Capitalist

Newgate sire Capitalist secured his 27th Australia winner for the 2021/22 season with Richunclemoneybags successful at the Sunshine Coast.

The Stuart Kendrick-trained 3-year-old, who is out of stakes-winning mare Johan's Toy (Johan Cruyff), and is a half-brother to Group 2 winner Toydini (Bernardini {USA}), claimed his maiden victory at start number six over 1400 metres.

Capitalist has a five-winner gap on his nearest rival Maurice (Jpn) in the battle to be the leading second-season sire by winners,

Maurice has his 22nd Australian winner of the season when Miss Middle Park won impressively at Cranbourne for Anthony and Sam Freedman.

Meanwhile, last year's Champion First Season Sire Extreme Choice had his 13th winner for the season thank to the Peter Gelagotis-prepared Titan Of Choice's maiden win at Cranbourne.

Godolphin keen for double Magics strike

Godolphin Australia's Managing Director Vin Cox hopes that Lonhro pair Roheryn and Kementari can break the hoodoo for wildcard horses in Magic Millions races on January 15.

Roheryn, who won the Listed Magic Millions Falvelon H. on Boxing Day, has earned a wildcard into the Magic Millions Snippets, while Kementari, who won The Buffering on Saturday, will tackle the Magic Millions Cup.

They will be the sixth and seventh Godolphin wildcard runners, with Athiri (Lonhro) going close to winning the Fillies and Mares' race last year.

“We have been around the target but we haven’t hit the target just yet,” Cox told Racenet.

“It is a great initiative by Racing Queensland, brought about by (former RQ Chairman) Kevin Dixon to broaden the scope of the meeting and to attract horses that aren’t necessarily qualified for Magic Millions.

“There is no doubt it was directed at organisations like Godolphin that are owner-breeders so it works well to that end.

“We missed by a millimetre last year so maybe it’s our turn.”

Karaka Million option for smart Tauherenikau winner

A tilt at the R. Listed Karaka Million 2YO at Ellerslie is now a distinct possibility for impressive debut winner Diss Is Dramatic (NZ), who cruised to victory at Tauherenikau on Sunday.

The Lisa Latta-trained daughter of Dissident prevailed in the colours of prominent syndicators Go Racing.

Diss Is Dramatic raced close to the pace to the turn and wound up strongly for rider Sarah Macnab to win going away by 1.3l.

“We have to consider it, although it would be a big ask for a filly that has won over 1000 metres and left-handed, but she was impressive,” Go Racing’s Albert Bosma said. “After today, it has to be on the table.

“We’ll see how she pulls up first. We would have to plan to gallop her at Ellerslie, so I’ll be having a good chat with Lisa in the next few days.”

Bosma purchased Diss Is Dramatic out of Cambridge Stud’s draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for NZ$60,000.

Gollan not concerned ahead of Isotope attempt

Trainer Tony Gollan is not worried that star mare Isotope (Deep Field) will tackle the Magic Millions Snippets first-up after being scratched on Saturday,

Gollan told RSN’s Correct Weight that he was happy to go into the $1 million race fresh with the 4-year-old, who fell in the R. Listed Magic Millions 3YO Guineas last year.

“She was coming to hand so well for me that we thought we could have a throw on New Year’s Day prior to getting there because we felt it would be beneficial to her," he said.

“But that was taken out of our hands with the weather so we can trial her again on Tuesday which will be three trials in off a long break and she’ll go fresh into the 1200.

“There are no concerns for me but I just hope we don’t get that sort of heavy ground on Magic Millions day.”

Gollan confirmed that Listed Nudgee S. winner Salateen (I Am Invincible) would tackle the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies and Mares.

Riordan creating opportunities

Jockey Liam Riordan is hoping his a four-timer at Burrumbeet on New Year’s Day can create more opportunities for him.

The 24-year-old began 2022 in the best possible fashion with this four winners and told Racing.com that he was working harder than ever to make the successful transition into life as a senior jockey.

“I’m doing a lot of work for Danny O’Brien, Simon Zahra, Matty Ellerton and Mick Price – they are my main four," Riordan said.

“And then I’m just trying to get along to whichever jump-outs I can.

“I think I’ve been out of my apprenticeship for maybe six months so it’s good that I’m banging in winners in the country but hopefully that can start to translate into some opportunities in town.

“I’ve gone back to basics and focused on feeling good and preparing well for the races and I definitely think I’m riding better."

1000 up for Andertons

Phyllite (NZ) (Gallant Guru) brought up a special milestone for training partners, Brian and Shane Anderton at Riverton on Saturday.

The win became the 1000th for the father and son combination since they began their partnership back in the 1993/94 racing season.

Over the following 29 years there have been plenty of highs and lows for the pair but the emphasis on hard work and attention to detail instilled in him by his father is something that Shane Anderton has never forgotten.

“It’s pretty amazing to think we have reached this milestone although we have been at it a fair while,” he said.

“In those early days I was still riding jumpers, so doing the horses in a formal partnership with Dad was just adding another dimension to our relationship.

“Dad has always been about working hard and reaping the benefits of that.

“There is always something to do around the farm or the stables, so we were taught how to work as kids and that was how you made it through when times are tough.

“I can still remember the day Dad came to me and said we were going into partnership. It was a big decision, but we’ve made it work."
