Looking Ahead - December 18

4 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Saturday, we will begin the day in the opening event at Randwick with a well-bred son of Snitzel before waiting for an expensive son of Deep Impact (Jpn) to debut over a trip at Newcastle.

We will then turn our attention to the feature event at Eagle Farm to watch a progressive gelding shoot for three wins on the trot this campaign.

Randwick, Race 1, 12.20pm AEDT, TAB Supports National Jockey's Trust H., $130,000, 1200m

Himalaism, 2-year-old colt (I Am Invincible x Snitzerland {Snitzel})

The Chris Waller-trained Himalaism kept closing through the line in his first trial on November 30 before backing that up with a solid hitout over 900 metres at Rosehill on Tuesday.

James McDonald has been booked to ride the well-bred colt after he was scratched from last Saturday’s R. Listed Inglis Nursery.

A $950,000 2021 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale purchase by Tom Magnier, Himalaism is out of G1 Lightning S. heroine and G1 Golden Slipper S. runner-up Snitzerland, making him a half-brother to G3 Mairbyrnong Plate winner Hard Landing (All Too Hard) and the stakes-placed Saas Free (All Too Hard).

Snitzerland herself is a sister to Kitchwin Hills' G3 Aurie’s Star H.-winning stallion Sooboog.

Newcastle, Race 4, 3.45pm AEDT, Tozer Air & Electrical Mdn Plate, $35,000, 1500m

Elzamee, 3-year-old colt (Deep Impact {Jpn} x Amanee {Pivotal {GB}})

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Elzamee must be respected here on debut after three soft trials, the most recent being a third-placing over 1200 metres at Warwick Farm.

Look for Elzamee to be hitting the line with intent under Brodie Loy with luck in running from barrier six in a likely capacity field.

A $1.1 million 2020 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale purchase by Ciaron Maher Racing, Elzamee is out of South African Group 1 winner Amanee, herself a daughter of the French Listed-winning Moon Is Up (USA) (Woodman {USA}).

Amanee hails from a family enriched in stakes success. Featured in her pedigree is recently retired G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner Loves Only You (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) and multiple Group 1 winner Miesque (USA) (Nureyev {USA}).

Eagle Farm, Race 7, 5.28pm AEDT (4.28pm local), Listed XXXX Gold Edition Plate, $200,000, 1200m

Far Too Easy, 3-year-old gelding (All Too Hard x Mnemonic {Hussonet {USA}})

Far Too Easy should prove hard to topple in this feature 3-year-old contest after winning his first two runs this campaign in impressive fashion.

Michael Hellyer will take the reins aboard the David McColm-trained galloper for the first time and maps to get an easy time of it from barrier four of 10.

All Too Hard | Standing at Vinery Stud

A $45,000 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Tresbland Pty Ltd via the draft of Baramul Stud, Far Too Easy is out of the unraced Mnemonic, making him a full brother to Listed Singapore Derby winner Hard Too Think.

Mnemonic’s grandam Marshow (Marscay) is responsible for G1 QTC Cup winner and the multiple Group 1-placed Into The Night (Rhythm).

G1 The Galaxy H. winner Jetball (Marscay) and G1 Caulfield Guineas runner-up Marwina (Marscay) feature in this family.

Looking Back

Our first selection, Fuller (Pierro) couldn’t get the job done on debut at Yarra Valley finishing second.
