Pariah's early trial winner

Berava provided young Arrowfield Stud sire Pariah his first trial winner when coasting to a comfortable 1.3l victory in the seventh heat at Deagon on Tuesday.

The Natalie McCall-trained colt clocked a time of 08.64s in the 650-metre, 2-year-old open event.

An $80,000 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by McCall, Berava is out of Shamrock Slipper (Jet Spur), a half-sister to Listed winner Interspersed (Sebring).

Pariah is covering his fourth book of mares this season at a service fee of $16,500 (inc GST).

Rewarding Mission

Aquis freshman sire The Mission was well-represented by five juveniles at the Deagon trials on Tuesday.

The 2017 G1 Champagne S. victor staked claim to a winner, two seconds, a third and a fourth across two 650-metre, 2-year-old trials.

The Les Ross-trained Mishani Sunshine provided The Mission with his first trial victor when scoring by 1l over 650 metres in a time of 38.09s.

Mishani Warfare and The Missionary finished second and fourth respectively behind their stablemate Mishani Sunshine.

Mishani Mental and Mishani Embrace rounded out the minor placings for The Mission behind Pariah colt Berava in the seventh heat.

The Mission is covering his fourth book of mares at Aquis' Conungra base this season at a service fee of $8800 (inc GST).

Clark booked

Multiple Group 1-winning hoop Tim Clark has been booked to ride high-class sprinter Rothfire (Rothesay) on return in Saturday week’s G2 The Shorts.

Trainer Robert Heathcote hasn’t committed to Clark for the entirety of the spring, saying he will assess his options following the race.

Bonham on display

G1 Levin Classic winner Bonham (Per Incanto {USA}) is set to make her debut for the Tony Gollan stable in Saturday’s 1200 metre G2 Sheraco S. at Kembla Grange.

“She is an untapped sort of mare, you don’t really know where she sits in the scheme of things,” Gollan told Racenet.

“There is no real pressure with her, I just want to see where she measures up, it certainly shapes her spring how she runs on Saturday."

Bonham when selling for $1.6 million at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale

A $1.6 million 2021 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale purchase by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA), Bonham is the first stakes winner out of Fortune’s Choice (Redoute’s Choice), who herself is out of G1 Arrowfield Stud S. (now named the Vinery Stud S.) runner-up Banc De Fortune (Galileo {Ire}).

Stablemate Krone (Eurozone) will be saved to run at the Gold Coast on Saturday week.

Moody gets the money

Listed Redoute’s Choice S. runner-up He’s The Ultimate (NZ) (Fastnet Rock) broke his maiden status with an emphatic 5l victory at Pakenham on Tuesday.

The Peter Moody-trained 3-year-old proved too good for Larneuk Stud galloper Highground (Cluster) and the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Demarcay (Exceed And Excel) in the 1200-metre contest.

He’s The Ultimate is out of Spirit Of Heaven (NZ) (Savabeel), a half-sister to G1 Schweppes Oaks winner Lights Of Heaven (NZ) (Zabeel{NZ}) and G3 BRC Grand Prix runner-up Angel Of Heaven (Redoute’s Choice). This is the family of G1 Diamond S. winner Dal Cielo (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}).

Star on song

Tasmanian-based trainer Bill Ryan is delighted by the condition of G3 Vamos S.-winning heroine Still A Star (Toronado {Ire}) ahead of her resumption in Saturday’s 1400 metre G2 Let’s Elope S. at Flemington.

The 5-year-old is likely to line up against Group 1 winners Instant Celebrity (Not A Single Doubt) and Mystic Journey (Needs Further).

"She's come back really well, I’m delighted with her even though she still hasn't grown up yet,” Ryan told SENTrack.

“So, hopefully, the spring will bring her right on, as she'll be hard to beat."

Skills courses announced

Racing Victoria has officially announced the implementation of two new pilot programs for track riders and stable staff.

The Slow Trackwork Rider Course and Stable Start Program is planned to commence at the end of this month and has been designed to create 'new training opportunities for those entering the sport or looking to advance their career'.

In a statement, Racing Victoria said the programs would focus on 'attracting those people that can be workforce ready in a short period of time'.

“The roll-out of the two fully funded pilot programs will not only build on the skills of those already working within the industry but those new or eager to join the sport," it read.

Low international numbers

Tougher import rules and travel restrictions have led to only three internationally trained runners featuring in Tuesday’s first acceptances for the G1 Caufield Cup and G1 Cox Plate.

The David Simcock-trained Rodrigo Diaz (GB) (Golden Horn {GB}) and the Andrew Balding-trained Spanish Mission (USA) (Noble Mission {GB}) remain in Caulfield Cup contention while the Joseph O’Brien-trained State Of Rest (Ire) (Starspangledbanner) is the lone international Cox Plate acceptor.

Rodrido Diaz (GB)

Meanwhile, last year’s G1 Melbourne Cup winner Twilight Payment (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) is among six internationally based runners remaining in contention for a start in this year’s race.

Master Of Reality (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) is in line for his third consecutive start in the Melbourne Cup while Sonnyboyliston (Ire) (Power {GB}) and Away He Goes (Ire) (Farhh {GB}) feature alongside the aforementioned Rodrigo Diaz and Spanish Mission as first acceptors.

Currie confident

Melbourne-based hoop Luke Currie is excited about the opportunity to partner G2 Hobartville S. winner Aegon (NZ) (Sacred Falls {NZ}) in Saturday’s G1 Makybe Diva S. at Flemington.

Currie will replace Jye McNeil aboard the Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained gelding after his fourth-placed performance on resumption in last month's G1 Memsie S. at Caulfield.

“He is not much to look at, I wouldn’t say he is an overly big or strong horse, but he galloped really nice on the course proper this morning. He was really professional, and it was a good, solid gallop,” Currie told SENTrack.

“He looks like he has got a great turn of foot and in these sorts of races they need to be adaptable and do that because they are hard to win.”

Peters pleased

Prominent owner Bob Peters expects talented mare Inspirational Girl (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}) to run a bold race in a competitive edition of Saturday’s G1 Makybe Diva S. at Flemington.

Peters said the G1 Railway S. winner has come through her first-up fifth in the G1 Memsie S. in good order.

Inspirational Girl

“I was pleased with her last couple of hundred metres (in the Memsie). So, hopefully, she can show us something,” Peters told TAB Radio.

“It’s probably going to be a bit stronger field than what Superstorm met on Saturday (in the G2 Feehan S.) but you have to come up against them at this time of the year.”

High hopes for Harlech

Talented galloper Harlech (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}) will press on towards next month’s G1 Tarzino Trophy and G1 Windsor Park Plate after pleasing connections with a fourth-placed performance on resumption in last Saturday’s G2 Foxbridge Plate at Te Rapa.

The 5-year-old entire is currently under the guidance of New Zealand-based co-trainer Pam Gerard at Michael Moroney’s Matamata barn after an extended stint in Australia.

“I was really happy with his run. It wasn’t initially a target for him but with the trial being put off at Taupo it didn’t leave us too much of a choice,” Gerard said.

“It was a distance well short of what he needs so I thought he got home very strongly.”
