Westbury’s no foal, no fee payment plan

Westbury Stud has unveiled a new move for breeders with the announcement of the Karaka nursery’s 2021 service fees.

All six stallions at the Gerry Harvey-owned farm will stand at a no foal, no fee policy with fees not payable until a live foal is on the ground at 24 hours of age.

“The initiative is gaining good momentum in Australia through the likes of Darley and Vinery Stud, and we see it as an advantage for breeders to utilise stallions of their choice without being required to pay for the service until they have a foal on the ground,” Westbury General Manager, Russell Warwick, said.

Proven sire Reliable Man (GB) will head the 2021 roster at a service fee of NZ$17,500 + GST after enjoying a successful season to date with 11 black-type performers including Bob Peters’ Group 1 winner Inspirational Girl (NZ), Group 2 winners Miami Bound (NZ) and Hypnos (NZ) and Group 3 winner De La Terre (NZ).

The fee for dual Group 1 winner Tarzino (NZ) will remain at NZ$12,000 + GST as his first crop approach their first Classic season in 2021/22.

Tarzino has been well-supported in his first four seasons at stud, covering 495 mares and having a large proportion of his first crop in work with Australian trainers.

Group 1 success

High Chaparral’s (Ire) son Redwood (GB) has also produced a Group 1 winner in the current season with his ill-fated son Rock On Wood (NZ) claiming the Captain Cook S. and his service fee will stay unchanged at NZ$8000 + GST.

El Roca will also remain at his 2020 price of NZ$8000 + GST after a strong season, particularly in Hong Kong with four-time winner Lucky Patch (NZ) a leading representative.

Swiss Ace has produced winners in seven racing jurisdictions, and he too has a rising star in Hong Kong in Fantastic Way (NZ), winner of three of his first four starts for trainer John Size, and will stand at NZ$7500 + GST.

Telperion completes the stallion roster at NZ$7500 + GST and the son of Street Cry (Ire) could not have started his stud career in better fashion.

His first runner Stormy (NZ) won on debut before victory in the G2 Wakefield Challenge S. and was subsequently sold for a six-figure sum to Hong Kong interests.
