Kilmore, Listed Bet365 Kilmore Cup, $150,000, 1600m

Race Summary

Pancho (Dissident) secured his second stakes win and Craig Williams' second Listed Bet365 Kilmore Cup with a tough success in the $150,000 feature.

Williams, who last won the Kilmore Cup in 1996, delivered an excellent ride on the Chris Waller-trained 4-year-old, who sailed past the leader Magna Bella (Magnus) at the 200 metre mark and then withstood a late charge from Tavidance (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}) to win by 0.75l. Black Sail (NZ) (Savabeel) worked home well for third.

It was a fitting reward for Pancho's consistency, after he was recently second in the Spring Mile at Randwick and then fourth in a race over the Flemington carnival.

It was his first win since he won the Listed TCV TV S. last year, beating subsequent Group 1 winner Russian Camelot (Ire) (Camelot {GB}).

He has now won five of his 21 starts.

Pedigree notes

Bred by Sledmere Stud, Pancho was a $165,000 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale purchase for Laurel Oak Bloodstock. He is a son of the Written Tycoon mare Novel Dancer, who has a yearling colt by Russian Revolution.

She won twice and was Group 3 placed and her dam Strata Title (Strategic) was a multiple winner and a black-type performer.

Further down the pedigree page is the G1 VRC Oaks winner Rom’s Stiletto (Sharp Edge {Ire}) and the G3 McNeil S. winner Defcon (Choisir).

The Russian Revolution colt was purchased by Laurel Oak Bloodstock at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale earlier this year.
