Looking Ahead - August 28

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Friday, a close relative of a recent feature winner debuts at Pakenham where we also see the first appearance of a half-sister to the great Zipping (Danehill {USA}), while at Gosford, a daughter of a $2 million, Group 1-winning mare looks to break her maiden.

Debutant Bomber's Kiss (Smart Missile) hails from a very current family, with his dam's half-sister Dame Giselle (I Am Invincible), winning the G2 Silver Shadow S. on Saturday. His own half-sister Steal My Kisses (I Am Invincible) was a Listed winner on debut, while his half-brother Butch Kissidy (Wanted) broke his maiden on this track a few years back before heading to Macau where he was stakes-placed.

Bomber's Kiss cost his trainers, Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, $90,000 at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. He has had a few jump-outs at Flemington, the latest on August 10 where he figured in the finish having tracked wide throughout.

Gosford, Race 3, 1.55pm AEST, Baby Ayton Mdn, $35,000, 1000m

Regally-bred Heroess (Snitzel) debuted with a fourth at Warwick Farm for Peter and Paul Snowden back in March and off the back of a good trial at Randwick, gets back to the track here, looking for a confidence-building maiden win.

Heroess as a yearling

She is the first foal from the multiple Group 1 winner Srikandi (Dubawi {Ire}) and cost $400,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for Andrew Williams Bloodstock. Her dam subsequently sold to Coolmore for $2 million at last year's Inglis Chairman's Sale and is now in foal to Justify (USA), while her half-brother by I Am Invincible fetched $1 million at this year's Magic Millions Sale.

Pakenham Synthetic, Race 4, 2.05pm AEST, Sandown Lodge Mdn Plate, $35,000, 1400m

Disco Queen's (Dissident) debut will be much anticipated given she is the half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Zipping and Listed winner Work The Room (Bel Esprit). The dam, Social Scene (Ire) (Grand Lodge {USA}) is a half-sister to four international stakes winners, including G1 Coronation Cup winner and champion European stayer Scorpion (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}).

Disco Queen as a yearling

A $60,000 buy for Malua Racing and Flemington Bloodstock at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, she has taken some time for Leon and Troy Corstens to get to the track. It is a family that tends to benefit when given time and she has had a few campaigns without getting to the races, having been to the jump-outs several times.
