A daughter of Playing God has topped the Mungrup Stud Online Dispersal Sale hosted by Magic Millions with a closing bid of $110,000 for Lot 50.
Belmont Bloodstock Agency principal Damon Gabbedy had the final say on the filly by the former resident of the Western Australian operation with a closing bid of $110,000, purchased on behalf of Dorrington Stud’s Rob Crabtree.

The Playing God yearling is out of Latoria (Oratorio), who won seven races including the Listed Summer Scorcher H. She is a half-sister to the top-flight winner Sheidel (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}).
“My good friend Des De Largie raced Latoria and I knew how talented she was so followed her whole career,” Gabbedy said.
“I ended up buying her half-sister Sheidel, who raced with great success for Rob and Sylvie Crabtree in Victoria culminating in her win in the G1 Oakleigh Plate.
“This is a great running pedigree that is always capable of throwing a top-liner. We love her sire Playing God and believe he is a serious stallion.

In June, Mungrup Stud announced that it was to cease operation after four decades.
“It is very sad for the family, but life doesn’t go in a straight line all the time and we’ve got differing views on where we want to head so it’s the best thing,” Gray Williamson told TDN AusNZ at the time.
“Everyone can then go in their own direction. It’s time to have a little bit of a breather, it’s a pretty relentless exercise and my health hasn’t been great in the last few years.
“It’s been a bit of a struggle on a number of fronts so we decided it’s best to pull stumps. The land is not being sold though, it’s just the bloodstock.”
Mungrup has been a major player in Western Australia for many years and has produced the winners of the G1 Railway S., the G2 Karrakatta Plate, the Perth Magic Millions 2YO and the G2 WA Guineas.

“Mungrup Stud has done a fantastic job over the years and has been one of Western Australia’s best breeders. It will be sad to see the end of an era, but it gives me great pleasure to support them by buying this outstanding filly,” Gabbedy said.
The second-highest price of the sale was $100,000 paid for Lot 78, a yearling filly by Playing God from the G3 La Trice Classic winner Vampi Lass (Bletchley Park {Ire}).
The successful bidder was Neville Parnham Racing, who prepared Playing God to win two editions of the G1 Kingston Town Classic.
