Krone leading hope
Doomben, G3 TAB Sapphire S., $125,000, 1630m
Krone (Eurozone) was a strong second two runs back and backed it up well when she came from back in the running to finish fifth in the G3 Dane Ripper S. She’s well drawn and has the in-form Brad Stewart to guide her fortunes.
Sure Knee (Snitzel) made late ground after going back from a wide barrier for sixth at his most recent appearance. She has again drawn a tricky gate, but is a capable mare and looks well-placed to add to her record.
Baccarat Baby (Casino Prince) was close-up in seventh in the Dane Ripper and she loves this course and distance. Tricky Gal (Magic Albert) is moving up in class, but her recent Sydney form gives her a decent chance.
Shuhood (I Am Invincible) is a smart filly and not without a show against the older horses while Teleplay (Written Tycoon) was below par last time out, but on her best form would give this a shake and could be on for longer odds.
Waller dominates
Doomben, G3 TAB Long May We Play Premiers Cup, $125,000, 2200m
Chris Waller again has a strong hand to play with the top five in the handicap and Alward (Ire) (Aqlaam {GB}) looks nicely placed to make an impact.
He has improved with each run and was fourth behind stablemate Le Juge (Ire) (Dansili {GB}) last time and is much better off in the weights this time. Kaonic (NZ) (Savabeel) moves up in trip here and that could see him more competitive.
La Pulga (Dream Ahead {USA}) is another going up in distance on recent racing and he’s a past 2200 metre winner so rates a decent chance. Another Dollar (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}) is a class act at best and a hope despite a sharp rise in weight.
Stay with Scallopini
Doomben, Listed Mittys Spear Chief H., $85,000, 1350m
Scallopini (Snitzel) was a dashing first-up winner of the Listed Hinkler S. and he backed it up with a fast-finishing third in the Listed Ascot H. He loves this course and trip and should be tough to roll.
Chapter And Verse (Rothesay) has improved with each of his runs and coming here third-up should be at peak while Twitchy Frank (Choisir) is more than handy. She is making her first appearance for Tony Gollan and often a change of environment can deliver early results.
Bargannon (Elzaam) has had a couple of trials ahead of this and is a two-time winner off a break. Spectrascope (USA) (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}) is another past first-up to consider. Star Reflection (Time Thief) got home well for a last-start fourth and, significantly, drops 6kg.
Wu Gok to star again
Rosehill, Listed Iron Jack WJ McKell Cup, $120,000, 2000m
Wu Gok (Sebring) is in terrific form and his stellar run promises to continue here with the prospect of his favoured wet track conditions in play. He has won his last two starts in style and showed his steely nature last time when headed before rallying again.
He beat stablemate Carzoff (Fr) (Zoffany {Ire}) on that occasions and the conditions of this race sees Wu Gok better off at the weights.
Attention Run (Ger) (Hurricane Run {Ire}) was a smart first-up winner over 1800 metres at his most recent appearance and can naturally be expected to strip sharper for the outing.
Primitivo (Sebring) was a handy sixth when resuming over 1600 metres and the step up in trip will suit him. The Lord Mayor (NZ) (Rock ‘N’ Pop) was below par last time out, but an improvement in the track could see him bounce back.
Trumbull in good touch
Rosehill, Listed Drinkwise Civic S., $150,000, 1350m
Trumbull (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}) finished well for second last time out and with 2.5kg less on his back is capable of going one better.
Outrageous (All Too Hard) is fresh and has a first-up winning record to respect while Special Missile (Smart Missile) has handy course and distance stats and has the gate to suit his free-running style.
Sambro (Fastnet Rock) finished runner-up to Dealmaker (Dundeel {NZ}) at their last meeting, but has a weight swing in his favour and Home Of The Brave (Ire) (Starspangledbanner) is genuine and his recent performances are hault to pick fault with.
Repeat on cards
Belmont, Listed Hahn Super Dry Strickland S., $160,000, 2000m
Perfect Jewel (Redoute’s Choice) has had the measure of most of these in recent times and with an unbeaten record on the track will prove a formidable opponent again.
Mississippi Delta (High Chaparral {Ire}) improved sharply last time out and stepping up in trip here will suit her ideally. A genuine speed will further enhance her prospects.
Humidor (NZ) (Teofilo {Ire}) doesn’t look the force he once was, but there was enough in his last-start effort to suggest he can still be competitive in this company. Gatting (Hard Spun {USA}) was below par at his most recent outing, but certainly worth another chance on his best form.
His barnmate The Velvet King (Universal Ruler) has been consistent over the shorter trips, but there is a question mark over how he copes with a middle distance.
