Morphettville, G1 The Furphy Goodwood, $400,000, 1200m

Race summary

It was a close finish in the G1 Goodwood, with Trekking (Street Cry {Ire}) just winning out over Gytrash (Lope De Vega {Ire}) by 0.1l for Godolphin and trainer James Cummings. It was the second Group 1 win for Trekking after he won the 2019 Stradbroke H. in Brisbane.

Xilong (Deep Field) led for the majority of the race before fading away to seventh in the home straight. Gytrash fought for first place and overtook Xilong at the 200 metre mark, he looked like he had it won until Trekking made a late surge in the final 100 metres and overtook in the final stride to take out the Group 1 feature. The Anthony Cummings-trained Lyre (Lonhro) was 1.8l away in third with his other runner Santa Ana Lane (Lope De Vega {Ire}) 3l back in sixth place. Sunlight (Zoustar) finished 5.8l away in 11th for trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy.

Trekking is the only winner produced by the Redoute’s Choice mare Outdoor, who is a daughter of the multiple Group 1 winner and former champion filly Serenade Rose (Stravinsky {USA}).

It is an international family that includes the two-time G1 Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II winner Viva Pataca (GB) (Marju {Ire}), the dual G2 Santa Anita Gabriel H. winner Brave Act (GB) (Persian Bold {Ire}) and the G3 Leopardstown Ballycorus S. winner Leitir Mor (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}).

Race summary

Extra Time (Shooting To Win) was a little slow into stride from the gates, but quickly mustered speed to take up the running.

He was on his own into the straight and went further clear 300 metres from home and coasted to the post to win by 3.4l.

The $1.7 million yearling buy Kazuhiko (Deep Impact {Jpn}) finished on well after racing greenly and Hard Rock Girl (All Too Hard) fought on gamely for third.

Extra Time was a $140,000 purchase at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale and is the first foal to race for Gwynethanne (NZ) (Handsome Ransom), who won seven times and was placed in Group 2 company.

Under the third dam is the G3 Eclipse S. winner Manolo Blahniq (NZ) (Jimmy Choux {NZ}) and the Listed Maribyrnong Plate winner Straight Wilder (NZ) (Straight Strike {USA}).

Further back in the pedigree is the G1 Spring Champion S. winner and sire Magic Of Sydney (Danehill {USA}) and his G1 Karrakatta Plate-winning brother Daney Boy.

Realm Of Flowers (So You Think {NZ}) was given a fine ride by Damien Thornton and she had no trouble opening her stakes account.

She settled in midfield and when she got clear galloping room in the straight came with an irresistible finish.

Silent Sovereign (Dalakhani {Ire}) finished stoutly to claim second money and Bellx (Rock Hero) was another to find the line well for third.

Realm Of Flowers was a $180,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase and is a daughter of Astral Flower (GB) (Kalanisi {Ire}).

All three of her foals to race are winners and she is a half-sister to the G1 Northern Dancer Turf S. winner and sire Redwood (GB).

Further back in the pedigree is the former champion European 3-year-old, multiple Group 1 winner and sire Dancing Brave (USA) (Lyphard {USA}).

Morphettville, G3 TAB Proud Miss S., $120,000, 1200m

Race summary

Humma Humma (Denman) took out the final race of the card at Adelaide in the G3 Proud Miss S. Trainer by John McArdle and ridden by Zac Spain it was the first win for the mare since the Listed Alinghi S. in 2019.

Humma Humma had an easy run on the fence before taking over the lead from Be My Star (Zoustar) in the straight and broke away for a 1.3l lead over Kabini (Written Tycoon), with Street Icon (Street Boss {USA}) 1.5l back in third. Be My Star finished 2.3l back in fourth.

The G2 South African Oaks winner Wind Chill (SAF) (Silvano {Ger}) and the G2 Turffontein John Skeaping Trophy winner Grey Arrow (SAF) (Western Winter {SAF}) add an international flavour to the pedigree.

Race summary

Chapel City (Ilovethiscity) caused a massive boilover when she landed the top prize at odds of a touch over 100-1.

The Gordon Richards-trained 6-year-old obviously had patchy form going into the race, but lifted with a career-best performance to finish powerfully in the hands of Georgina Cartwright, who had earlier won the Listed Centaurea S. with Oasis Girl (Redoute’s Choice).

Seabrook (NZ) (Hinchinbrook) finished well for second and the favourite Harbour Views (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}), who raced keenly in midfield, did well to get home for third.

Chapel City is proving a grand investment after trainer Gordon Richards purchased her for $35,000 at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

A half-sister to six winners, including the stakes performer Hank’s Nephew (Danbird), she is out of the unraced Peintre Celebre mare Chapent.

She is a half-sister to the Listed Balaklava Cup winner Chading (Marauding {NZ}) and her dam Dancer’s Choice (Bletchingly) won the G3 National S. and was twice Group 1-placed. She also produced the Listed winner Catango (Catrail {USA}).

Morphettville, Listed AAMI Centaurea S., $100,000, 2030m

Race summary

Apprentice Georgina Cartwright can take a bow after an excellent front-running ride aboard Oasis Girl (Redoute’s Choice).

She rated the filly perfectly at the head of affairs and had enough in reserve to back up her previous win at Caulfield with a black type victory.

Nerve Not Verve (NZ) (Shocking) turned her form around after a disappointing lead-up effort at Flemington with a stout finish for second and La Belle Jude (War Chant {USA}), who looked beaten at the top of the straight, rallied well for third.

Oasis Girl is a half-sister to five winners, including the Listed Oakbank S. winner Siwa Lady (Gonski), who also placed at Group 3 level.

The dam Siwa (GB) (Green Desert) is a half-sister to the G2 Royal Asdcot Ribblesdale S. winner Flying Cloud (Ire) (Storming Home {GB}), whose brother Captain Webb was also a black type winner.

Race summary

Wisdom Of Water (Headwater) showed rapid gate speed to take a clear early lead and he travelled keenly in front under Robbie Fradd,

The colt was coasting at the top of the straight and with little urging went further ahead to win by a wide margin and confirm a start in the G1 JJ Atkins S.

Tick Tock Boom (Spirit Of Boom) and Superare (Exceed And Excel) couldn’t be split by the judge and dead-heated for second with Kavak (Deep Field) best of the rest.

Wisdom Of Water was purchased out at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft for $70,000 and is out of Regal Tier (Royal Academy {USA}).

She has produced two other winners and is a half-sister to the dual black type winner Tierqualo (Sequalo) and the family of Flamboyer (Clang), who won an edition of the Listed Glasshouse H.

Flamboyer, who won nine races including the Listed Glasshouse H. is the other stakes winner on the first page of the pedigree.

Gold Coast, G3 Brandons Gold Coast Guineas, $125,000, 1200m

Race summary

Hightail (Written Tycoon) was sent to Queensland off the back of a resuming victory on the Kensington track and he did that successfully.

In the hands of Ryan Moloney, he sat back off a good speed and came with a well-timed run to reel in The Odyssey (Better Than Ready).

The runner-up’s effort was full of merit as he had to sprint hard early from a wide barrier to race in second spot while Exhilarates (Exceed And Excel) came from a mile back for third.

Hightail was $520,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase and is a son of the unraced Falvelon mare La Paris.

She has a rich and deep pedigree and is a half-sister to the black type winner and G1 TJ Smith runner-up Ringa Ringa Rosie (Bradury’s Luck).

Their dam La Guichet (Al Hareb {UA}) is a half-sister to the two-time Group 1 winner Dashing Eagle (Danehill {USA}), who left the South African stakes winner Being Fabulous (High Chaparral {Ire}) and the family also includes the Group winners Single Bullet (Not A Single Doubt), Pacific Warrior (SAF) (Dominion Royale {GB}) and his siblings Stonehenge (SAF) (Seventh Rock) and Pacific Charm (SAF) (Sportsworld {USA}).

Australian form is added further down the pedigree by the Group 2 winners Osborne Bulls (Street Cry {Ire}) and Viridine (Poet’s Voice {GB}) and Brief Embrace (Irgun {USA}).

Race summary

Love You Lucy (Love Conquers All) came here in solid form in the lower grades and she rose to this black type challenge with aplomb.

The 4-year-old met the sternest test of her career in fine style for trainer Barry Squaire and rider Mark De Plessis in style with the most important win of her career.

Fiesta (I Am Invincible) finished off well for a close second and Jen Rules (Redoute’s Choice took the third share of the prize.

Love You Lucy’s dam has produced one other winner in C’Mome Paddyreilly (Drumbeats) and the dam herself won a couple of minor sprints.
