Looking Ahead - May 8

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we put the spotlight on a couple of lightly-tried maiden prospects at Goulburn while a half-sister to a multiple Group 1 winner who's debut at Wangaratta has caught our attention.

Goulburn, Race 1, 12.15pm AEST, Semco Country Only Mdn, $20,000, 1000m

Nuremburg Castle (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) looks to have this race at his mercy following a bold first-up effort at Wagga. The 3-year-old sat off the pace and got home strongly over this trip so all the signs point toward him opening his account.

A $90,000 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale purchase for trainer Matthew Dale, Nuremburg Castle is a son of Opulence Start (Lonhro) and closely related to the G3 Cockram S. winner Octavia (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}). The second dam Paklani (Haulpak) was a dual Group 3 winner and Group 1 performer and produced the dam of the South African Group 1-winning siblings Stellite (SAF) (Fard {Ire}) and Zirconeum (SAF) (Jallad {USA}).

Goulburn, Race 4, 2.00pm AEST, Tab.com.au H., $20,000, 1600m

Your Hand In Mine (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}) has an impressive international pedigree and is a daughter of the unraced Dance Of The Sea (Ire) (Sinndar {Ire}) and she is a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winner and sire Spectrum (Ire) and his G2 Mac Diarmada S. winning brother Stream Of Light (Ire).

Also the family of the four-time Group 1 winner and sire Conduit (Ire), Your Hand In Mine was a $100,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduate. She resumed at Bathurst last time out for trainer Bjorn Baker and held a steady gallop to finish sixth, but her pedigree suggests she will relish more ground and can show quick improvement.

Wangaratta, Race 1, 11.55am AEST, BetEasy Mdn Plate, $20,700, 1170m

Miss Tenthousand (Spirit Of Boom) is a half-sister to Boban (Bernardini {USA}), who won five times at Group 1 level and they are out of Kenbelle (Kenmare {Fr}). She was also a high-class performer who was successful in the G1 Australian Oaks and the G2 Queen of the Turf S.

The dam is a half-sister to the G2 Todman Slipper S. winner and multiple black type placegetter Auranch (Rancher). Miss Tenthousand is prepared by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace and, while she hasn’t officially trialled, looks worth a serious look on pedigree.
