A perfect preparation built to a glorious close for win machine Rubisaki (Rubick) at Randwick with victory in the G3 JHB Carr S. and she will head to the paddock undefeated in her last six appearances for trainer Patrick Payne.

The filly continued her rapid progress when she added the Mostyn Cooper-sponsored feature to her record and plans are already afoot for the spring.

Rubisaki’s connections are confident she will be even more of a force to be reckoned with on better ground and that was borne out on Saturday when she was successful on an upgraded Good 4 track.

“It was a great effort again after she jumped very awkwardly. It wasn’t race over because I knew if I got her to settle nicely she would reel them in.”

Rubisaki settled third last before circling runners near the turn and she finished determinedly to account for a fast-finishing Subpoenaed (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle {Ire}). St Covet’s Spirit (Uncle Mo {USA}) got home well for third ahead of Akari (Snitzel).

“It took a fair bit out of her to chase down Akari and we got there and then Subpoenaed really came at her and I thought we’ve got nothing left. That’s why she has won her last six though because she just found again,” Rawiller said.

Rubisaki has been in the care of Goulburn trainer John Bateman during her time in New South Wales and he believed the best was yet to come.

“She’s a fantastic filly and done a top job again. The world’s her oyster, she’s got so much more improvement in her. All credit to Patrick (Payne) and to Joe.”

The latter is Joe O’Neill, of Prime Thoroughbreds, who said Rubisaki would be staying in New South Wales for a break before returning home to Victoria for what promises to be a lucrative spring campaign.

“She will go to Yarraman Park Stud for a spell for six weeks now and then we’ll bring her back. She’ll have a couple of runs in Melbourne leading into the Golden Eagle,” he said.

Rubisaki had won the Inglis Sprint, the G2 Kewney S. and the G3 PJ Bell S. prior to her Randwick success for Prime Thoroughbreds and partners and has now taken her career earnings to $1,155,650, a tidy return on her purchase price of $85,000.

The filly, a daughter of the Danehill Dancer (Ire) mare Senro Kisaki, was bought out of the draft of breeder Edinburgh Park at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

O’Neill is understandably a massive fan of the family and also has Rubisaki’s multiple-winning half-sister Zizzis (Sizzling), her brother and a colt by Wordsmith out of their half-sister Husson’s Kiss (Husson {Arg}).
