So You Think (NZ) x Paris Tryst (colt)

Lot 346 - Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale, on account of Daisy Hill

TDN AusNZ: How did you decide on this particular mating?

Shane Freeman, Daisy Hill: This mare was originally bought to start off Americain's (USA) stud career with the intention of breeding staying types.

There is a current trend of buying Northern Hemisphere bred horses for our staying races. Why do that when we have those sires sons standing here? Put them over our colonial mares that are tough and hold up to the conditions here.

Paris Tryst is out of Melbourne Cup winner, Let’s Elope (NZ) - we liked the cross with So You Think (NZ) (who finished 3rd behind our Melbourne Cup winner, Americain).

This cross should produce a pure middle-distance/ staying type.

The mare has thrown 5 winners from 7 to race and the sire is doing a fantastic job producing quality types that need a bit of time and distance, so this ticked all of our boxes.

TDN AusNZ: What was the foaling down like and initial comments on the foal?

Daisy Hill: It was a cold and drizzly night with very unforgiving weather, the wind was angry. Just prior midnight Paris’ waters broke. As I grabbed his cannons to help him out, I looked at Colleen (owner of Daisy Hill) and smiled, I said ‘this ones going to be something special’. He was a big, impressive foal, quick to stand and suck. He just did every thing right.

TDN AusNZ: What was the horse like as a weanling?

Daisy Hill: He has always been a very forward type.

TDN AusNZ: How is the horse handling prep so far? Does it have a nickname? Particular traits/personality?

Daisy Hill: All of our yearlings take prep in their stride, we bring them into the barn throughout the year for ‘mini preps’, so by the time Yearling prep comes around each year - they settle into the stable environment quickly which is important for trainers.

Our horses also spend plenty of time out in grass yards during the day. We find this really important to keep them happy. We need to remember these are only babies and they’re still processing everything. We want our horses to be peaking at sale time, not prior and therefore become sour when we’re trying to showcase our product to potential buyers.

This guy really enjoys the attention from the girls in the box and can be quite cuddly but he can also be quite playful on his morning walk to the yards. His mane and tail are a dead giveaway for who is he by!
