Darley Scone Cup: imports look hard to beat

2 min read

It's a day off for the locals in Scone as they celebrate Darley Scone Cup day before the standalone Saturday race meeting.

Equal-favourite for the 2019 Darley Scone Cup is Fierce Impact (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) from the stable of Matthew Smith. Last spotted in the G1 All Aged S. when finishing seventh of 13 to Pierata (Pierro), this is a major downgrade in class.

Also favoured in the market is Kris Lees' Irish import Take It Intern (Ire) (Rip Van Winkle {Ire}) for Orbis Bloodstock, who should improve with his fresh effort for fourth at Randwick.

New Universe (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}) has a smart second-up record with two wins off the back of a resuming run and he could add to his record. He was a sound fourth off a break last time out in the G3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup.

Special Missile (Smart Missile) is genuine, and could be one to kick off the tally for the new training partnership of Richard and Michael Freedman, who also have Roman Son (Roman Emperor {NZ}) in the race. Bred by the late Bart Cummings, he trialed well on the 3rd May in preparation for this race.

The last-start victory of Fuchu (All Too Hard) showed he’s in the right order to make a step up in grade.
