Encryption joins the Eureka stallion roster

Eureka Stud enjoyed a standout year in 2018 with star young stallion Spirit of Boom. Their roster has again been boosted with the announcement that Godolphin's beautifully bred 3-year-old Encryption will be retiring to the Queensland property at the completion of his racing career this season.

Queensland farm Eureka Stud has added another smart sprinter to its stallion ranks, with Encryption, the blueblood son of Lonhro, joining the line-up in 2019.

Winner of the G3 Black Opal S. as a 2-year-old, the James Cummings trained Encryption was also placed in the G3 VRC Maribyrnong P. and G3 MRC Chairman's S. as a juvenile. He resumed as a spring 3-year-old to add the G2 VRC Danehill S. to his CV.

Earlier this autumn he was tested in open company when lining up in the G1 Oakleigh Plate, finishing under a length behind Booker (Written Tycoon).

Encryption's pedigree combines a regal mix of Darley bloodlines. By Champion Sire Lonhro, he is the first foal from Champion 3-year-old filly Guelph (Exceed and Excel). His grand-dam is Group 1 winner Camarilla (Elusive Quality {USA}) who is herself a daughter of Group 1 winner Camarena (Danehill {USA}).

This is also the family of current Group-winning 2-year-old Bivouac (Exceed and Excel) and Champion 2 and 3-year-old colt Sepoy (Elusive Quality).

A proven formula

Eureka Stud has drawn distinct similarities between Encryption and their exciting young sire Spirit of Boom (Sequalo), which has given Harry McAlpine an extra boost of confidence.

"Much like Spirit of Boom’s own early race record, Encryption raced as an early pre-Christmas 2-year-old with placings in the Listed Debutant Stakes and G3 Maribyrnong Plate," McAlpine said.

"His qualities of precociousness, toughness and temperament coupled with his impressive turn of foot are similarities we can relate to Spirit of Boom's own racing career." - Harry McAlpine

"His qualities of precociousness, toughness and temperament coupled with his impressive turn of foot are similarities we can relate to Spirit of Boom's own racing career. We believe that gives Encryption the exciting credentials we have sought out for a stallion to succeed alongside him at stud."

A consistent race record was also a trait sought after by the farm, with McAlpine noting "he finished in the first four at 10 of his 17 starts all in stakes and Group races."

Encryption will race on at the upcoming Queensland carnival under the Godolphin banner, aiming toward a final start in the G1 Stradbroke H. His fee will be announced upon retirement.

Spirit fee set

Spirit of Boom set the track alight with his first crop in 2017/18, posting five stakes winners in quick succession. After covering a book of 218 mares last season, Eureka will restrict his book at a fee of $44,000 (inc GST).

Currently sitting second on the second season sires list, Spirit of Boom's first crop have continued to progress, with the young sire currently posting an impressive 8.2 per cent stakes winners to runners. Headlined by Boomsara (Spirit of Boom) winning the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, Spirit of Boom sits fifth on the 3-year-old Australian sires' table.

His progeny were in demand at the 2019 yearling sales, headlined by the $350,000 colt from Deb's Choice purchased by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott from Magic Millions.

Rounding out the Eureka stallion roster is Defcon (Choisir), who will stand his third stud season at $4400 (inc GST) with payment on live foal, while stud stalwart and Group 1 sire Red Dazzler (Red Ransom {USA}) will also stand at an unchanged fee of $4400 (inc GST).

Defcon, winner of the G3 Canberra RC Black Opal S. and G3 MRC HDF McNeil S., has five first-crop weanlings entered for the upcoming Magic Millions Weanling Sale.
