Looking Ahead - April 27

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Saturday, we like the prospects of a pair of sparingly-raced youngsters in action at the Hawkesbury meeting and a John Sadler-trained colt at Caulfield who created a big impression on debut.

Hawkesbury Race 3, 1,00pm, TAB Clarendon S., 1300m

The Gerald Ryan-trained Rammstein (Snitzel) has a deep pedigree that came at a price - $260,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. He is a son of Red Fez (Red Ranson {USA}), who won on three occasions and was twice Group 2 placed. Her mother Otravez (Redoute’s Choice) is a half-sister to the stakes winner Listen Here (Elusive Quality {USA}), dam of the Group winning brothers and exciting young stallions Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor) and Deep Field (Northern Meteor). It’s also the family of the G3 Proud Miss S. winner She’s So High (I Am Invincible).

Rammstein was a trial winner before he finished fifth on a soft track and showed his appreciation of the better ground when a sound last-start second on the course. He has an ideal draw to go one better here.

Hawkesbury Race 7, 3.30pm, G3 Blacktown Workers Hawkesbury Guineas, $200,000, 1400m

Trope (More Than Ready {USA}) has impressed in a brief career and following a debut success he ran second in the Listed Fireball S. Last time out in the G2 Arrowfield S. he got a long way back and closed well for seventh over 1200 metres. The extra distance here will be to his advantage.

The $500,000 Inglis Sydney Easter Yearling Sale graduate is a half-brother the stakes performed brothers Laser Flash (Redoute’s Choice) and Selectify. Their dam Personify (Galileo {Ire}) won the Listed Queen Adelaide S. and she is a half-sister to the multiple South African Group 1 winner Laisserfaire (Danehill {USA}) and to the stakes winning siblings A Time For Julia (Redoute’s Choice) and Time Thief.

Caulfield Race 6, 3.10pm, Ladbrokes Showdown, $950,000, 1200m

Sartorial Splendor (Brazen Beau) is coming out of a Terang maiden where he was sent out at short odds and delivered in style from the outside gate, despite doing a few things wrong. He will improve with that experience and shapes as an exciting prospect capable of continuing his winning form against better company.

The $130,000 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale graduate is a half-brother to the G2 Blue Diamond Prelude and G3 Blue Diamond Preview winner Fontiton (Turrfontein) with their mother the Listed Northwood Plume S. winner Personal Ensign (Rubiton). It is a family full of precocity with Personal Ensign’s dam Blue Gum Girl (Rancho Ruler) a juvenile winner and she is a daughter of the G2 SAJC Breeders’ S. winner Golden Prayer (Amen Brother {USA}).
