Looking Ahead - April 8

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we take a closer look at a well-related trial winner and an expensive purchase who steps out at Hawkesbury and a debutant at Ballarat whose dam has a 100 per cent record at stud.

Hawkesbury Race 2, 1.25pm, Schweppes Maiden, $35,000, 1100m

Glamour Cat (More Than Ready (USA) is a daughter of the G3 Chairman’s S. winner Kittens (Redoute’s Choice), who is a sister to the G3 CS Hayes winner and Group 1 performer Sheer Talent and a half-sister to the G3 Randwick City S. winner Saint Encosta (Encosta de Lago). Their dam is a half-sister to the Group 1 winning siblings Bonanova (NZ) (Star Way {GB}), Fraternity (NZ) and Telesto (NZ).

Trained by Anthony Cummings, Kittens has been taken along quietly and that patient approach now appears to be coming to fruition. The filly was a trial winner last month at Randwick where she was ridden by Adam Hyeronimus, who takes the mount again.

A $1.5 million Inglis Easter Yearling Sale purchase, Creator (Redoute’s Choice) is out of a half-sister to the former champion Hong Kong sprinter Silent Witness (El Moxie {USA}) and the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt is a close relative of the G2 Salinger S, winner Sister Madly. It is a speedy family that also features the G2 Kewney S. winner Empress Rock (Fastnet Rock).

Creator was prominent at the trials before he made his debut at Randwick where he finished runner-up with third placegetter Bivouac (Exceed And Excel) a subsequent Group winner. That form should ring true here and the 2-year-old will also be all the better for the race experience.

Ballarat Race 1, 1.30pm, Cervus Equipment Maiden, $35,000, 1200m

Tinzsel (Snitzel) is a daughter of Montwest (NZ) (Montjeu {Ire}} and four of her foals to race have been successful. She is a half-sister to the G2 Eight Carat Classic winner Natalie Wood (NZ) (Yachtie), who is the dam of the G3 Lexus Plate winner and Group 1 performer Maluckyday (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}).

Also from the family of the stakes winning sprinter Richard Beymer (NZ) (Volksraad {GB}), Tinzsel was put aside after a trial in the spring. The filly is prepared by Henry Dwyer and with the aid of the inside gate, she appeals as a strong each way prospect.
