Adam Sangster believes the signing of the Group 1 winning sprinter Sioux Nation (USA) (Scat Daddy {USA}) is a perfect fit for Swettenham Stud.

The announcement continues the strong and successful association his family has enjoyed with Coolmore over the years.

“John and Tom Magnier respected the Victorian breeders’ support of Highland Reel and in honour of that they suggested the speediest son of Scat Daddy come here,” Sangster said.

“Sioux Nation is arguably from one of the most prolific sire lines in the world. This horse has got speed on speed and he’s out of an Oasis Dream mare so he’s going to be absolutely ideal.”

The first son of Scat Daddy to stand in Victoria, Sioux Nation was trained by Aidan O’Brien and won four of his 15 starts, including the G1 Phoenix S. at the Curragh as a 2-year-old. He also claimed the G2 Norfolk S. at Ascot, the G3 Lacken S. and finished third in the G1 Flying Five S.

“I couldn’t have been more impressed when he won the Phoenix Stakes and I loved him at Ascot,” jockey Ryan Moore said.

“He gave me a beautiful feel when he got fast ground. He’s a beautiful horse and I think he’s got a big future at stud.”

Sangster said Sioux Nation offered the complete package of pedigree, performance and conformation.

“He’s got raw power and he’s built like a true Australian speed horse.” – Adam Sangster.

“He’s a Group 1 winning 2-year-old by a world class sire. I saw him in Ireland and he is a magnificent, strong and masculine individual that stands over 16.1 hands.

“He’s got raw power and he’s built like a true Australian speed horse. He’s very fertile and he’ll throw great looking progeny.

“There’s no doubt he is the real speed deal. It’s something we really wanted and the market has got a thirst for speed and we can now feed it.

“Coolmore in New South Wales wanted to stand him, but John and Tom have been so impressed how Highland Reel has been received that they have given us this opportunity and I’m sure Victorian breeders will be supporting the horse.

“There is no doubt he will suit the Australian conditions, as all his wins were on turf and he loves fast ground.

“Importantly, Sioux Nation was able to train on and perform at the top level at three, winning the G3 Lacken Stakes over 1200 metres and was gallantly placed in the Group 1 Flying Five Stakes over 1000 metres.”

Sioux Nation is a son of Dream The Blues (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}), who was successful over 1200 metres, and is a half-sister to the Group performer Colour Blue (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}). Their dam Catch The Blues (Ire) (Bluebird {USA}) won the G3 Ballylogan S. and placed in the G1 Haydock Sprint Cup.

“He comes from a European speed-focused pedigree,” Sangster said. “He is free of Danehill and Galileo blood and will be a brilliant breeding outcross for the Australian mare population.”

Other sons of Scat Daddy include his 2018 American Triple Crown winner Justify (USA), the unbeaten 2-year-old Caravaggio (USA) and the record-breaking No Nay Never (USA).

Sioux Nation will arrive at Swettenham in August and will stand at a service fee of $16,000 + GST.
