Group 1 Randwick Guineas

Race Summary

Supporters of the pin-up colt and commanding favourite The Autumn Sun (Redoute’s Choice) would have been very nervous at the top of the straight.

He was a long way off a strong pace, but when Kerrin McEvoy got busy he responded and set out after Fundamentalist (Not A Single Doubt) who had kicked well clear.

The Autumn Sun was flying at the post to pick the filly up with the last-start G1 Surround S. winner Nakeeta Jane (So You Think {NZ}) finishing third.

Pedigree Notes

The Autumn Sun was sold by Arrowfield Stud for $700,000 at the Sydney Easter Yearling Sale and is the only winner for the unraced Azmiyna (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).

She is a half-sister to the ill-fated multiple Group 1 winner Azamour (Ire) and the Group 2 winner Arazan (Ire) (Anabaa {USA}).

It is also the family of the G1 Longchamp Prix Ganay winner Astarabad (USA) (Alleged {USA}) .

Group 1 Canterbury S.

Race summary

Trapeze Artist (Snitzel) is an imposing beast on his best day and the stallion was back with another front-running win under a confident Blake Shinn ride.

Shinn came out with intent on the 4-year-old, leading and rating his mount perfectly, but the key was pinching a break at the top of the straight.

The margin he stole with 400m to go meant Shoals (Fastnet Rock) was closing but left with too much to do. Prompt Response (Beneteau) box seated behind the winner in the run but was left flat-footed when Shinn pressed the button, Cool Passion (Not A Single Doubt) showed some nice signs for the future as she flashed home for fourth.

Pedigree notes

Trapeze Artist was retained by breeder Bert Viera after failing to reach a reserve of $300,000 at the 2016 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

The 4-year-old continues to build a solid CV for a stallion with a G2 win to add to his victories in the 2017 G1 Golden Rose, 2018 G1 All-Aged Stakes and 2018 G1 TJ Smith Stakes.

Trapeze Artist is out of Woodlands Stud-bred mare Treppes (Domesday) and has a yearling half-sister by Wandjina.

Treppes did not win a race but is a half-sister to 2001 G1 Stradbroke Handicap winner Crawl (Dr Grace {NZ}) and stakes winner Old Man (Dr Grace {NZ}).

Group 2 Challenge S.

Pedigree Notes

Ball Of Muscle has taken his earnings to over 1.6 million in prize money. He is from the blue hen mare Parfore (NZ) (Gold Brose) who has also produced Group 1 winners Terravista (Caption Rio {GB}) and Tiger Tees (Camption Rio {GB}). Parfore's progeny have won a combined total of 25 stakes races.

Group 3 Wenona Girl Handicap

Race Summary

Winter Bride (Not A Single Doubt) let the race unfold in front of her when sitting at the back of the field under Tommy Berry. The pair steadily improved their position throughout the race but it wasn’t until swinging into the straight that Berry asked his mount for her best work. Coming on the outside of the field, Winter Bride showed determination when finding the line.

Spright (Hinchinbrook) was able to hold on for second over another fast closer in Resin (Exceed and Excel).

Pedigree Notes

Winter Bride was retained to race by her breeder Segenhoe Stud. She is out of the ten time winning Perugino (USA) mare Amberino. Amberino herself won the G2 Amancipation Stakes. Winter Bride is the third foal of the stakes winning mare.

Prophet's Thump was able to hold off the fast finishing Trope (More Than Ready {USA}) who finished second, with the tough Jonker (Spirit Of Boom) holding on for third.

Listed Randwick City S.

Race Summary

Group 1 winning mare Hiyaam (NZ) (High Chapparal {IRE}) led all the way in the Listed Randwick City Stakes. It was a race where there was plenty of pre race drama when High Bridge (GB) (Monsun {GER}) became cast in the barriers and was scratched. After the gates opened it was a pretty straightforward win for Hiyaam.

Hiyaam defeated the brave Shraooh (IRE) (Sea The Stars {IRE}) and the consistent Emperor's Way (Roman Emperor {NZ}).

Pedigree Notes
