Looking Ahead - March 2

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we take a close look at the prospects at Randwick of a well-related filly from the Snowden stable and at Flemington the chances of an expensive youngster making her second appearance and a Tony McEvoy-trained 3-year-old taking on the older horses.

Randwick Liberty International Sweet Embrace S. $200,000 1200 metres 2.30pm

Anaheed (Fastnet Rock) is a half-sister to the stakes performer Farooq (Frankel {GB}) with their dam the G1 Robert Sangster S. and G2 VRC Sires’ Produce S. winner Rostova (Testa Rossa). It is a family littered with well-performed sprinters including the G1 Railway S. winner Imananabaa (Anabaa {USA}), the Listed Singapore Juvenile Championship S. winner Mystic Master (Snippetson), the G2 Maribyrnong Plate winner The Heavyweight (Zeditave) and the G2 Karrakatta Plate winner Born Priceless (Pricelessy {USA}).

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Anaheed ran up to her pedigree first time out when she won the Victory Vein in her only spring appearance. She returned in the G3 Blue Diamond Preview and finished a sound fifth. She can only improve with that outing and expect a bold showing from the filly.

The Segenhoe-raced Isa Rocket (Fastnet Rock) was a $360,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase and is a daughter of Angel Bee (NZ) (Pins), successful on four occasions and stakes placed. She is out of the G3 Winter Cup winner Zabeels Angel (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}), also the dam of the black type performers O’Angel (NZ) Cape Blanco {Ire}) and Turnstiles (Anabaa {USA}).

Isa Rocket is prepared by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace and gave a tidy account of herself in her first appearance. The filly was well-supported when fourth at Moonee Valley last month and it may well pay to follow the money here.

Tony McEvoy’s Beauty (Smart Missile) made a cracking start to her career with three wins on the spin, including the Listed Crockett S. She was turned out after failing in the Listed Desirable S. and with her perfect first-up record she warrants respect here.

Beauty is a half-sister to the stakes winners Get To Work (Snippets) and Order Of The Sun (Encosta de Lago) and to the dam of the G1 Diamond S. winner Summer Passage (Snitzel). The dam Sequin (Lure {USA}) is a half-sister to the dual Group 2 winner Shania Dane (Danehill {USA}) and her black type winning sister Scintillation. It is also the family of the G2 Hobartville S. winner Man From Uncle (Uncle Mo {USA}).
