Akeed Mofeed (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) has made a highly encouraging start to his stud career and he will get every chance to advance further up the stallion ladder with his move to Victoria.

The former high-class Hong Kong galloper will relocate from South Australia’s Goldin Farms to Swettenham Stud at Nagambie for the 2019-20 season.

His former residency, the old Lindsay Park property in Angaston, was purchased by businessman Pan Sutong, who raced Akeed Mofeed and in five seasons he covered 338 mares.

“His first season 2-year-old runners were more precocious and successful than we could have imagined from only 60 live foals,” Goldin Farms General Manager Andrew Perryman said.

“We are anticipating a steep rise in Akeed Mofeed's visibility and popularity as those horses reach their optimal racing age.

“It’s a combination of things and we want to give him the best possible opportunities and the broodmare band in Victoria is bigger and of better quality.

“It’s restricted in South Australia and there is a bit of uncertainty here with the lack of Government support.

“It’s about what’s best for Akeed Mofeed and giving him the best chance.” – Andrew Perryman.

“We still own the horse and will get a percentage of the service fees so it works well for Goldin Farms.

“We will continue to support him very heavily ourselves. It’s about what’s best for Akeed Mofeed and giving him the best chance. It’s all about the horse and it’s all systems go.”

Akeed Mofeed won two of his five starts in Ireland for trainer John Oxx, including one at Listed level, before he relocated to Richard Gibson’s operation.

In his fourth appearance from his new quarters he triumphed in the G1 Hong Kong Derby and subsequently added the G1 Hong Kong Gold Cup to his record of six wins up to 2000 metres from 19 career appearances.

“We identified him as one of the most exciting young stallions at stud and we have a great relationship with Goldin Farms,” Swettenham’s Sales and Nominations Manager Sam Matthews said.

“They’ve done an incredible job to get him where he is and he will complement our roster very well.

“We spoke to a lot of trainers beforehand and every one of them said they are incredible horses to do anything with.

“We’re looking forward to getting a big, quality book of mares in his first season here. He’s a great chance.”
