Looking Ahead - February 15

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we fancy the chances of a high-priced yearling at Canterbury Park and a well-credentialled 2-year-old at Moonee Valley, while earlier in the day a Mick Price-trained maiden looks a royal prospect at Donald.

Canterbury Park Summer Night Racing H $50,000 1550 metres 6.45pm

Rexx (I Am Invincible) was a $550,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy for Boomer Bloodstock and is a half-brother to five winners, including Scratch Me Lucky (Snitzel), who was runner-up in the G1 ATC Sires’ Produce S. Their dam Radiant Star (Success Express {USA}) is a half-sister to the Group 3 winner Red Colossus (Testa Rossa) and Nediym’s Glow (General Nediym).

Trained by Chris Waller, Rexx trialled well ahead of his current campaign and has since posted consecutive minor placings. He was most recently third on the Kensington track over 1400 metres and the step up in distance here now looks ideal for a breakthrough success.

Moonee Valley Dominant Hygiene Systems Plate $60,000 1000 metres 6.30pm

Godolphin contender Flit (Medaglia D’Oro {USA})) has a handy 2-year-old pedigree and is a daughter of Glissade (Redoute’s Choice), who was a juvenile winner and finished runner-up in the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude. She is a daughter of Steflara (Zabeel {NZ}), whose three wins up to 1300 metres included the G3 Breeders’ Classic while family member Byzance Star (Clear Choice {USA}) was successful in the G3 Taranaki 2YO Classic.

Flit finished second in her only trial at Werribee last month and has a good chance here to display the family speed. Craig Williams rides for trainer James Cummings.

Donald Football Club Maiden $23,000 1200 metres 1.30pm

The Mick Price-trained Ahadi Farasi (Anacheeva) kicked off her career in promising fashion when she finished runner-up at Stony Creek. She closed well on that occasion and 1200 metres should suit her perfectly. The filly will be ridden by Damien Thornton and from a handy gate they look a strong combination.

Ahadi Farasi is out of a half-sister to the stakes performers Royal Pericles (Stravinsky {USA}) and Flying Ace (Rory’s Jester). The pedigree also features the G1 Telegraph H. winner Signify (NZ) (Perfectly Ready) and his half-brother El Sicario (NZ) (Bullbars), who is a multiple winner and ran second in the G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce S.
