Moonee Valley. Listed Crown Resorts Torney Night Cup, 2500m, $150,000

Double Bluff (Ire) (Azamour {Ire}) is looking for back-to-back successes in the Listed Torney Night Cup at Moonee Valley on Friday night having not won a race in 12 months.

Now with his fourth trainer, Double Bluff won this race when trained by Robbie Laing, but has been with Warrnambool trainer Aaron Purcell since November.

His only placing in nine starts since winning this race last year was last start when he was third in a 2400m open handicap at Caulfield where he showed substantial improvement.

However, this looks a stronger race, with a couple of Sydney stayers expected to provide the testing material.

Chris Waller's import Naval Warfare (Ire) (Born to Sea {Ire}) was a Listed winner two starts back before finishing second in the Listed Australia Day Cup behind Etymology (New Approach {Ire}) last time out.

He hasn’t been to Moonee Valley before nor has noted front-runner Fabrizio (High Chaparral {Ire}) who has been stepped up in distance this time in by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and has shown his quality with two placings at stakes-level.

Kiwia (Reset) won the Listed Ballarat Cup this campaign and while he hasn’t got back to that level in three starts since, he has the class to win. This is his first start for Archie Alexander.

Bondeiger (War Pass) is another ex-Darren Weir stayer with a new stable, in his case Ciaron Maher and David Eustace. He was very good closing off for third in a 2000m race at Caulfield last start and has won over this track and distance before.

Vengeur Masque (Ire) (Monsun {Ire}) confronts the easiest race he has met for some time but is a query second-up off a break and does carry top weight.
