Looking Ahead - January 13

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we have high hopes for a debut runner at Warwick Farm where a well-bred filly also makes her return while at Ladbrokes Farm a juvenile with a rich pedigree has attracted our attentiuon.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Bullet Fly (Deep Field) was a $340,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase and is a half-brother to the stakes performer Princess Pierro (Pierro). They boast sprinting backgrounds with their dam Caesar’s Princess (Exceed And Excel) a half-sister to the top quality short course performer Atomic Force (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), winner of the G1 Galaxy H. and G1 Railway S.

Bullet Fly has had two trials to have him ready for this first-up assignment and in his most recent outing finished runner-up over 1000 metres at Randwick. He has drawn a handy gate and Sam Clipperton will take the reins.

Hafaawa (Redoute’s Choice) is a half-sister to the champion South African 2-year-old colt Soqrat (Epaulette), winner of the G1 Greyville Premiers Champion S. and the G1 Kenilworth Cape Guineas. Their dam is Elzeeza (Hussonet {USA}), twice successful and closely related to the G2 Phar Lap S. winner Colorado Claire (Hussonet {USA}) with the family also featuring the G1 Chairman’s Sprint prize winner Lucky Bubbles (Sebring).

Trained at Lindsay Park, Hafaawa is raced by Shadwell and turned in an encouraging debut effort when she finished runner-up at Randwick on Boxing Day. She can only have benefitted from that experience and with Luke Nolen in the saddle they appeal as a strong combination.
