Looking Ahead - Feb 9

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we like the chances of a well-related colt at Warwick Farm, the son of a champion mare at Kembla Grange and a resuming filly whose unbeaten record goes on the line at Caulfield.

Warwick Farm Listed Darley Lonhro Plate $140,000 1100 metres

A half-brother to the G3 Gucci S. winner Onemorezeta (Onemorenomore), Cosmic Force (Deep Field) is out of Little Zeta (Commands). The dam is a half-sister to More Than Great (More Than Ready {USA}), who won the Listed Ming Dynasty H. in track record time.

Cosmic Force was a $180,000 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale buy and the youngster provided an early return when he made the perfect start to his career at Newcastle in November. Trainers Peter and Paul Snowden then put the colt away and has placed and won a trial at Rosehill since his return to the stable.

A $270,000 Inglis Sydney Easter Sale yearling, Heroic Fighter (Redoute’s Choice) boasts a pedigree to be proud of as a son of the former champion 3-year-old filly and two-time Group 1 winner Faint Perfume (Shamardal {USA}), whose three foals to race have all been successful. She is a grand-daughter of another dual top-flight winner in Danendri (Danehill {USA}).

Trained by Gerald Ryan, Heroic Fighter trialled extensively before he finished third on debut at the end of December and followed up with a breakthrough victory over 2000 metres. He looks well-placed here for another winning strike.

Zoubo (Zoustar) puts her unbeaten record on the line when she resumes here and a recent trial win at Geelong emphasised her readiness to return for trainer Mick Price. Michael Dee has ridden the 3-year-old in both of her victories and all trials and he continues the association.

She is a daughter of the winner and multiple stakes placegetter Testa Reale (Testa Rossa) and is a half-sister to Royal Bender (Refuse To Bend {Ire}) and Blue Royalty (Bluebird {USA}), also black type performers. They are from the family of the former Singapore champion galloper El Padrino (Mr Nancho {Arg}).
