In-form mare Flamingo (NZ) (Pins) secured a first piece of black-type with an impressive victory in the Listed Property Brokers Wairarapa Thoroughbred Breeders’ S. at Tauherenikau.
Ridden by Rosie Myers, the 5-year-old mare came from midfield to beat Glory Days (NZ) (Red Giant {USA}) by 0.8l, with Podravina (NZ) (Bel Esprit) another half a length away in third.
It was Flamingo's sixth win in 21 starts but her first at black-type level, having previously been placed in the G3 Cuddle S. and the G3 Cambridge Breeders S. earlier in her career.
In foal to Savabeel, it is likely to be final campaign for trainers David and Emma Haworth.
Pedigree Notes:
Flamingo becomes the second stakes winner for her dam Bird (NZ) (Danasinga) joining her half-brother Preditor (Savabeel), who was a Listed winner in Singapore.
Bird herself is a stakes winner, as is her half brother Happy Gilmour (Kinjite), while another half-sister produced the Group 3 winning filly Classcoroc (Sirocco).
Flamingo was offered at the 2015 National Yearling Sales at Karaka but didn’t make her reserve and was retained by her breeder Mark Chittick of Waikato Stud.
