Pedigree Boosters - Karaka

2 min read

In the build up to the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale at Karaka, we will pick out three yearlings each day who have had substantial pedigree updates in the past couple of months.

Today, we focus on a pair of fillies who have each received Group 1 boosts in recent weeks and a colt who is also closely-related to a top-flight performer.

Lot 208 Tavistock (NZ) x Meleka Belle (NZ) – Offered by Haunui Farm

She is a half-sister to the star performer Melody Belle (NZ) (Commands), a three-time Group 1 winner who was desperately unlucky when coming from a horror gate to finish third in the G1 Railway S.

Their dam is a half-sister to the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas placegetter Tsarina Belle (NZ) (Stravinsky {USA}) and to the Group 2 performer Desert Rain (NZ) (Honor Grades {USA}). Rock Kingdom (Rock Of Gibraltar {IRE}) is one of the many Group 1 winning members of the family.

Lot 214 Dissident x Miralago – Offered by Blandford Lodge

The big mover in this pedigree is close relation Danzdanzdance (NZ) (Mastercraftsman {IRE}), who has posted a double Group 1 update with the dashing grey mare winning the Captain Cook S. and the Zabeel Classic.

This filly is a grand-daughter of Gretchen (NZ) (Bahhare {USA}), runner-up in the G1 Australasian Oaks and a half-sister to the G2 Japan-New Zealand Trophy winner Silky Red Boxer (NZ) (Casual Lies {USA}) and to the dam of the three-time Group 1 winner Lucia Valentina (NZ) (Savabeel).

Lot 555 Ocean Park (NZ) x Alberton Princess (NZ) – Offered by Seaton Park

A timely pedigree credit came last Saturday when family member Wyndspelle (NZ) (Iffraaj {GB}) finished second in the G1 Thorndon Mile at Trentham. He had also filled a similar placing at his previous start in the G3 Anniversary H.

A half-sister to the unbeaten stakes winner Brutal (NZ) (O’Reilly {NZ}), whose sister Talaria (NZ) has also been successful at black type level, this colt is out of a half-sister to the G2 Matamata Breeders’ S. winner Te Akau Rose (NZ) (Thorn Park). The G3 Thoroughbred Club S. winner Cavalry Rose (Charge Forward) also features in the pedigree.
