Stud’s platform a passport to success

Brendan and Jo Lindsay will be presenting their first draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sales series at Karaka under their premier Cambridge Stud banner. Further developing the reputation set by Sir Patrick, their consignment will be marketed with a major point of difference.

Brendan & Jo Lindsay, who took over the iconic nursery from Sir Patrick and Justine Lady Hogan last autumn, will put forward their 56-strong consignment using full transparency through the innovative Kick Sales Platform.

Developed by the Sydney-based Kick Collective, it was successfully launched earlier this month with Mike Fleming’s Bhima Thoroughbreds utilising the platform for their Magic Millions Sale draft.

The team at Cambridge Stud have been busy preparing yearlings for sale at Karaka

“It went very, very well at the Gold Coast, I couldn’t have been any happier,” Fleming said.

“It was really well-received by all buyers and there were no negatives.” - Bhima's Mike Fleming

“In this day and age everyone is time poor and agents, syndicators and trainers have to do a huge amount of work. This platform removes all the barriers that are put in front of them.

“It was really well-received by all buyers and there were no negatives. We sold several horses simply because their information was accessible - I know half a dozen buyers or underbidders that relied on the platform to make a quick decision to bid.”

Cambridge Stud’s system allows potential buyers to visit their website and access horse owner and breeder records, horse history, extensive pedigree information, x-ray reports provided by two veterinarians, scope reports, dam progeny records and links to race replays.

TDNAusNZ spoke with Cambridge Stud co-principal Brendan Lindsay:

TDNAusNZ: What do you see as the major benefits?

BL: All of the information is available to potential buyers, but until now it hasn’t been available in one spot. It’s about making people’s lives easier and they can now access all the relevant information quickly. People can visit our site and have immediate access to up to date information on every yearling.

TDNAusNZ: Are there any particular groups of potential buyers it will serve well?

BL: I think everybody can reap the benefits of it. The racing industry here has fallen behind Australia and this is a chance to put all the information in front of them, and anybody else for that matter, to do their homework before they get here. Most people lead particularly busy lives and haven’t got time to go searching for information, well it’s all on our site at the click of a button.

All information will be available to buyers in the one place

TDNAusNZ: So it would also be tailor-made for syndicators?

BL: Absolutely. They can access everything they need and send that information quickly to potential share-holders. The reality is that it is all available, but not in one spot until now. It’s just like a one-stop shop and it can make the decision-making process far easier.

TDNAusNZ: You are the first New Zealand stud to offer the service, what of its future?

BL: There is no doubt in my mind that in a short period of time the majority of vendors will be making all this information available as we are. It’s the best thing since sliced bread. You can log on to the Cambridge Stud Horse Passport and you don’t have to give an email address, you just go for it. You won’t be bombarded by emails or anything back from us, there’s no pressure and it’s open to everyone to view.

TDNAuzNZ: And lastly, it’s your first time selling as Cambridge Stud so exciting times ahead?

BL: For sure, every day is a learning day and it’s a great line of horses. Our policy is that every horse is there for sale and the market will tell us what they are worth. Hopefully, people like them all as much as we do and we are going to meet the market.
