Day 2 Preview - Redoute's can steal show again

4 min read

Arrowfield icon Redoute's Choice shone through with the top lot on Day 1 of Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and expectations are high for the stallion's progeny when Day 2 gets underway on Thursday.

While much of the pre-sale attention was on his Arrowfield barnmate Snitzel and the two challengers for his title as Australia's current premier stallion in Yarraman Park's I Am Invincible and Widden's Zoustar, Redoute's Choice stole the show when his colt, Lot 34, went for $1.6m.

He kicks Day 2 off with the third lot, a colt out of Group 1 winning mare Via Africa (SAF) (Var {USA}) expected to garner plenty of early attention when offered by Newhaven Park.

Newhaven also put forward the bay Redoute's colt out Aware (Tale of The Cat {USA}), Aware is a daughter of multiple Group winner Media (Gilded Time {USA}), the sister of Timbourina and Cardinal Virtue.

It’s a stacked pedigree backed up by the colt's physical attributes which should propel him into the heart of the market.

Lot 417 is another colt by Redoute's Choice set to make a splash. Segenhoe Stud present the son of Breakfast in Bed (Hussonet {USA}), the stakes-winning half sister of G1 Flight S. winner Oohood (I Am Invincible). It’s also the family of Arrowfield stallion Not A Single Doubt.

There are two Redoute's Choice fillies likely to make an impression later in the day in Lot 447 and Lot 470.

Lot 447 comes from Arrowfield out of the American mare Champagne Run (USA) (More Than Ready {USA}, who is a three-quarter sister to G1 Victoria Derby winner Benicio, while Lot 470 is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Yankee Rose (All American) offered by Kulani Park.

Another of the elder statesman stallions in Vinery's More Than Ready (USA) had five lots sell on Day 1 and his colt, Lot 340, out of Group 1 winner Allez Wonder (Redoute's Choice), is expected to attract plenty of support.

The day 1 battle between Snitzel and I Am Invincible went the way of the Yarraman Park stallion with 19 lots sold at an average of $420,000.

Things could swing back Snitzel's way, with a selection of strong colts, Lot 306, out of Zenon (Super Saver), Lot 336 out of Alice Smart (USA) (Smart Strike {USA}) and Lot 359 out of Another Superior (NZ) Captain Rio {GB}) complimented by a duo of highly-anticipated fillies in Lot 397 out of Belle De Couer (Show A Heart) and Lot 313 out of Group 1 winner Absolut Glam (Snowland).

I Am Invincible is expected to finish well on Day 2 with a couple of fillies in the afternoon session worth keeping an eye on in Lot 434 out of stakes-placed mare Cajou (Encosta de Lago), who has already produced Group 3 winner Allergic (Street Cry {Ire}), and Lot 446 out of Listed winner Champagne Cath (Street Sense {USA}).

There were 10 Zoustars sold on Day 1 and there are 13 on offer on Day 2, highlighted by Lot 320, the colt out of stakes-placed Acouplamas (Al Maher). The KBL Thoroughbreds product is a half to The August (I Am Invincible) from the family of Blackfriars.

Lot 379, the colt by Fastnet Rock out of Ballet Suite (High Chaparral {Ire}), also could contend for honours of the highest-priced yearling of the day, tipped by many as the 'colt of the sale'.

But perhaps the most intriguing lot of the day kicks things off. Lot 266 is the only yearling by Lord Kanaloa (Jpn) in the sale and has a rich Japanese pedigree.
