Looking Ahead - January 8

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Tuesday, Darren Weir debuts a filly from a Group winning mare, while Ciaron Maher and David Eustace look for a breakthrough maiden winner from a filly from a Group 1 family. Then it’s off to Cessnock, where a 4-year-old with a bit of upside returns for Paul Messara in the Arrowfield colours.

The very-well bred Visibly (Sepoy) makes her debut for Darren Weir off a 1000m jumpout last week, where she was snagged back in the field and came widest working home nicely under a little late pressure. She also had a trial in July, finishing second there.

A homebred for Fairway Thoroughbreds, she is out of Group 2 winning mare Vintedge (Flying Spur), so will probably appreciate more distance in time. Her older half-sibling More Than Edgy (Vintedge), a one-time $110,000 yearling, remains a maiden, while her younger half-sister Splashy (Medaglia D'Oro {USA}) finished close up in a recent 2YO trial.

Teebo (Stryker) could deliver a timely little pedigree boost to her younger half-brother by Unencumbered should she break through for her first win at start number five at Yarra Glen. The sibling is down as Lot 53 and is set to sell on Wednesday on the Gold Coast.

Out of Group 1 winning mare Recurring (NZ) (Pentire {GB}), Teebo is a half-sister to two stakes-placed horses in Time After Time (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) and Coming Back (High Chaparral {Ire}). She was a $140,000 buy at the 2017 Premier Sale for co-trainer Ciaron Maher and while she hasn’t scored a win yet, is not far away and this looks a suitable race.

A one-time $320,000 Easter Yearling purchase, Rekindled Force (Redoute's Choice) resumes here for Paul Messara after a couple of solid recent trial performances at Gosford and Scone. A winner of his first two races, he then finished placed behind subsequent Group 1 winner Unforgotten (Fastnet Rock) before two so-so runs last campaign.

He is the son of Rekindled Applause (GB) (Royal Applause {GB}), a half- sister of Rekindled Interest (Redoute's Choice) from the family of Designs on Rome (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}). A filly from the same family sells as Lot 61 of the Magic Millions Sale on Wednesday,
