Pedigree Boosters

In the build up to the major yearling sales this year, we will pick out a selection of yearlings each day who have had notable pedigree updates in the past couple of months.

Today, we look at how recent winners in Australia and New Zealand have boosted the pedigree pages of their siblings on sale at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Lot 164: Not A Single Doubt x Special Lover – Offered by Noorilim Park

This is a pedigree on the move with black type that has recently been added to this youngster’s pedigree by a quartet of relatives on both sides of the Tasman. The colt is out of a sibling to the G3 Standish H. placegetter True Excelsior (Exceed And Excel) while in New Zealand there have also been significant updates.

Also from this family is the G3 Eulogy S. winner Queen Of Diamonds (NZ) (Savabeel), the Listed Levin S. winner Gift Of Power (NZ) (Power {GB}) and the G3 Waikato Cup winner Mongolian Marshal (NZ) (High Chaparral {IRE}), who also placed in last Saturday’s G3 City of Auckland Cup.

Lot 164 is a grandson of the unraced Special Diamond (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}), a sister to the Group 1 winner Don Eduardo (NZ) and a three-quarter sister to the former Australian Horse of the Year Octagonal {NZ}). It is therefore the legendary Eight Carat (GB) (Pieces Of Eight {IRE}) family.

Lot 336: Snitzel x Alice’s Smart – Edinburgh Park

This colt has been done favours by the two wins of his unbeaten brother Wonderbabe, who followed up a debut win at Newcastle for trainer Brad Widdup with further success at Randwick.

They are sons of Alice’s Smart (USA) (Smart Strike {USA}), successful on two occasions in her home land. It is a family that has provided a host of North American black type winners, but most significantly has also produced the multiple Australian Group 1 winner Criterion (NZ) (Sebring) and his G1 Doomben Cup winning half-brother Comin’ Through (Fastnet Rock).

Lot 655 Zoustar x Hoist - Offered by Newhaven Park

The debut success of Hills (Not A Single Doubt), who runs for trainer Tony McEvoy at the Gold Coast on Saturday, has drawn further attention to this youngster.

He is a grandson of the unraced Zabeel (NZ) mare Divine Light (NZ), who is a three-quarter sister to the former two-time Australian Horse of the Year Might And Power (NZ). Also featuring in the colt’s pedigree is the former champion Hong Kong Miler Lucky Owners (NZ) (Danehill {USA}) and the G1 VRC Oaks winner Mosheen (Fastnet Rock).
