Pedigree Boosters

In the build up to the major yearling sales this year, we will pick out a selection of yearlings each day who have had notable pedigree updates in the past couple of months.

Today, we look at how recent winners at Hong Kong, Ellerslie and Doomben have boosted the pedigree pages of their siblings on sale at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Lot 506: Scissor Kick x De Groove - Offered by Bhima Thoroughbreds

This grey filly's prospects at the upcoming Magic Millions Sale have been done plenty of favours by her older half-brother Big Party (Exceed and Excel), who has won two recent races in Hong Kong, the latest over the 1200m on New Year's Day.

A $420,000 buy for ABC Bloodstock from Bhima at the 2017 Easter Sale, Big Party has won two of three races for Frankie Lor and the 3-year-old looks a horse of some promise.

Lot 506, one of 11 offered from first-season sire Scissor Kick, already has plenty of depth to her pedigree page. De Groove (Dehere {USA}) has produced stakes-placed pair Top Me Up (Exceed and Excel) and General Groove (General Nediym) and is a full-sister to Listed winner Super Groove and half-sister to Group 3 winner Taikun (Anabaa {USA}), a family that also includes Zapurple and Purple Groove.

Lot 884: Exosphere x Ouija - Offered by Fernrigg Farm

This colt received a timely boost when his older half-brother by Denman, Whiskey Neat, won the G3 Eclipse S. at Ellerslie on New Year's Day. A 10.25l winner on debut, Whiskey Neat maintained his unbeaten record and looks one of the most promising 2-year-olds in New Zealand.

It means his dam, Ouija (Viscount), a half-sister to Renaissance and Sessions, joins her mother, Seances (Canny Lad), as a stakes-producing mare. This colt will be one of the final few sold on the typically hectic Saturday night session.

Lot 3: Spirit of Boom x Passara - Offered by Eureka Stud

This colt's pedigree page got its first black-type winner on it when his full brother Boomsara won the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate on December 29 at Doomben. Boomsara had been stakes-placed as a 2-year-old but that upgrade certainly adds more value to his brother. The half-sister Sarisara (Red Dazzler) was a five-time winner and was also stakes-placed.
