Boomsara (Spirit Of Boom) had to burn the candle at both ends at Doomben on Saturday, but it made no difference to the 3-year-old who trounced his age group opposition.

He had to work overtime to cross the field and make the running in the G3 Magic Millions Vo Rogue Plate and any fears his early exertions may have been his undoing were unfounded.

The Chris Munce-trained Boomsara sailed clear in the straight and held the strongest of gallops to score by an impressive four and a-half lengths from Pennino (Easy Rocking).

“My intention was to go forward and we had to do a stack of work, but he had a good kick and all credit to Chris and his team.” - Damian Browne.

“My intention was to go forward and we had to do a stack of work, but he had a good kick and all credit to Chris and his team,” winning jockey Damian Browne said.

“He’s been racing against Zoustyle and all the better horses and I know they’ve had a big opinion of him for a long time and they’re getting good rewards now.”

Boomsara was a winner last season and placed in the G2 Sires’ Produce e S. and the G3 Ken Russell Memorial before he was put aside.

He was having his third run back this preparation on Saturday and was untested to go one better after finishing runner-up behind Tony Gollan’s unbeaten Zoustyle (Zoustar) on the course at the beginning of the month.

No surprise to Munce

Munce has the utmost faith in Boomsara and is bullish about his chances of knocking off Darren Weir’s dual Group 3 winner Native Soldier (Sepoy) in the upcoming $2 million Magic Millions Guineas.

“I have been saying all along that we won't see the best of him until he got out to 1350 and 1400 metres,” Munce said.

“It was a month between runs and he will be improved for the Guineas. I give him a real chance of winning the race.”

Boomsara has proved himself to be a great money-spinner, with the highly prospect of plenty more to come, as he cost only $45,000 at the Magic Millions March sale and he has now banked $360,000.

“He has been terrific for us and his owners include the McAlpines of Eureka Stud who stand his sire Spirit of Boom,” Munce said.

Tregea comes up trumps

Meanwhile, Steve Tregea attacked the Listed Bernborough H. in numbers and the least fancied of his trio got the job done.

Bergerac (Drumbeats), a giant of a 5-year-old, upset the applecart with a long odds victory.

The Toowoomba conditioner said he found it hard pre-race to split Bergerac, Niccanova (Nicconi) and Prioritise (Rothesay), who finished sixth and seventh respectively.

“Barrier one was the big difference for Bergerac.” - Steve Tregea.

“Barrier one was the big difference for Bergerac,” he said. There hasn't been much between the three of them throughout their careers, but Bergerac is a stable favourite. He is really a big track horse so winning is a real boost.”

Bergerac followed the leading pack along the fence and once apprentice Michael Murphy found clear galloping room the gelding asserted his superiority.

“Michael is very under-rated and we use him when we can,” Tregea said.

Honey Toast (Redoute’s Choice) got a long way back and did well to finish second with Bluebrook (Hinchinbrook) third.
