Looking Ahead - December 19

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Today, we have a close look at a lightly-tried winner and a maiden chance at Wyong and then focus on a well-related colt stepping out at Caulfield.

Battle Cry (All Too Hard) was a $300,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase and is a son of the Listed Gibson Carmichael S. winner Affable (Husson {ARG}). She is a half-sister to the Group performer Gracious Prospect (Tale Of The Cat {USA}) with their dam Lady Gracious (Redoute’s Choice) a sibling to the dual Group 1 winner and sire Turffontein (Johannesburg {USA}).

Trained by Mark Newnham, Battle Cry finished fourth in his Hawkesbury debut in September and was subsequently given three more trials. He won the last of those at Randwick and then shed his maiden tag at Gosford earlier this month.

Princess Siri (Exceed And Excel) could offer some value in this line-up and following an unplaced run first time out she has finished runner-up in a trial at Randwick, which suggests she has benefitted from the experience of a race day outing.

She was a high-priced yearling at $330,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale and is a half-sister to the two-time Listed winner Whittington (Tale Of The Cat {USA}). Their dam Maha Chakri (Beautiful Crown {USA}) was also successful at black type level and is out of the Listed Dane Ripper H. winner Ta Ta Tatiana (Carry The Crown {CAN}). It is also the family of the G1 Railway S. winner Volpe Veloce (Foxwedge).

Blinder (Snitzel) has looked good in a short career for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young. He won first time out at Sale before a second at Moonee Valley and last time out finished fourth at Sandown. He drew the outside gate there and is much better served by the draw this time.

A NZ$300,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale buy, Blinder is out of the unraced Passiflora (USA) (Empire Maker {USA}), whose three foals to race have all been successful. She is out of a sister to the mighty Danehill (USA) (Danzig {USA}) and a strong European Group winning family.
