Special win within Kurt’s reach

If Outta Reach (Your Song) can triumph in Saturday’s Inglis Nursery at Randwick it would be of particular significance to Kurt Goldman.

She is the Goulburn horseman’s first dabble into the breeding game and, with a pair of runner-up finishes from her initial outings, the filly has the right credentials to deliver a memorable result.

Outta Reach is a daughter of Arms Length (Hussonet {USA}), a handy mare who won six races and more than $190,000.

Outta Reach as a weanling

“She was my first racehorse and I owned and trained her so I kept her,” Goldman said.

“She had a full brother to Outta Reach last month and I’ve got an Al Maher yearling.” – Kurt Goldman.

“She had a full brother to Outta Reach last month and I’ve got an Al Maher yearling. I’m not sure if it will go through a sale or not and the mare is having this year off.”

Goldman did put Outta Reach through the Inglis ring at the Scone Sale where she was passed in for $60,000.

“She didn’t make what she had cost to date, but luckily I was in a position to keep her,” he said.

Outta Reach’s mother is closely related to the Listed South African winner Sky Link (Hussonet {USA}) and a half-sister to the dam of the G1 Scottsville Allan Robertson Championship winner Mighty High (SA) (Pathfork {USA}).

International background

Further international flavour is brought to the pedigree by the fourth dam Absentia (USA) (Raise A Cup {USA}), who won the G2 Beverly Hills H. and produced the G2 Temple S. winner and sire Dancing Dissident (USA) (Nureyev {USA}).

Closer to home, family members Kaharau (NZ) (Ad Valorem {USA}) and The Gordonian (NZ) (Remind {USA}) are stakes winners and the former also finished third in the G3 New Zealand Cup.

Outta Reach was a trial winner on her home track last month and a fortnight later she finished second at Kembla Grange before filling the same position behind Aeecee Vinco (Charge Forward), a race rival again at Randwick, at Canberra at the end of November.

“I was pretty soft on her second-up and she’s improved.” - Kurt Goldman.

“I was pretty soft on her second-up and she’s improved,” Goldman said. “She had a good blow after that and I thought her run was full of merit.

“The only thing is that she’s probably looking for 1200 metres as opposed to 1000 metres on Saturday.”

Outta Reach has come up with the outside barrier, but that hasn’t put Goldman off her chances of taking the thick end of the $500,000 stake.

“There’s only one bend at Randwick to get around and it doesn’t worry them if they’re good enough,” he said.

“She’s had those couple of runs under her belt so she’s got a lot more experience than a lot of the others.” – Kurt Goldman.

“It’s better to be out there than stuck in on the rail. She’s had those couple of runs under her belt so she’s got a lot more experience than a lot of the others.”

While he is unsure of Outta Reach’s ability to cope with rain-affected going if the predicted bad weather arrives, the filly did run second on soft ground first time out.

“It’s a bit of an unknown on race day, but on a wet track they’ll be trying to get off the fence so that may also play into our hands,” Goldman said.
