G2 James & Annie Sarten Memorial Stakes

Race Summary:

Sword Of Osman (NZ) (Savabeel) led all the way to claim the G2 James & Annie Sarten Memorial S. (1400m) at Te Rapa.

Unplaced in two runs in his 3-year-old campaign, the G1 winning 2-year-old ridden by Opie Bosson, held on to defeat Qiji Express (NZ (Shamexpress {NZ}) by a nose on the line with Madison County (NZ) (Pins) third.

The winner is now headed to the G1 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai New Zealand 2000 Guineas.

Pedigree notes:

Sword of Osman is out of the Distant View (USA) mare Bunyah (Ire), who has produced five winners, including the stakes-placed Fortaleza (nz) (Darci Brahma {NZ}). Bunyah is a half-sister to English black-type winners Governor Brown and Hataab, out of the stake-placed Irish mare Miss Mistletoes.

Sword of Osman was a $165,000 buy for David Ellis at the NZB Premier Sale in 2017 from the Trelawney Stud draft.
