Group 3 Blue Sapphire S., Caulfield

Race Summary:

Written By (Written Tycoon) continued his love affair with Caulfield with a comfortable all the way win in the G3 Catanach's Jewellers Blue Sapphire S.

The Blue Diamond S. winning colt made it four wins from four starts at the track, jumping straight to front and beating Encryption (Lonhro) by 1.25l, with Tony Nicconi (Nicconi) third in the feature race on the middle day of the Caulfield carnival.

It was Written By's second run, and win, of his campaign and his final start before he heads to the G1 Coolmore Stud S. on the first day of the Flemington carnival.

Pedigree Notes:

Written By was bred by the Begg family, who bought his dam Yau Chin, for $3,000 out of the Scone Select Yearling Sale in 2007. He was passed in short of his $200,00 reserve at the 2017 Melbourne Premier Sale.

Yau Chin's first four foals are all winners, while there is a 2yo full-brother to Written By and a colt yearling, named Wise Dragon, by G1 Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente (Ire). The fourth dam in the family is a half-sister to the G1 Guineas winner and successful sire Pins (Aus).

Group 3 Ladies Day Vase, Caulfield

Race Summary:

I Am A Star (NZ) (I Am Invincible) notched her ninth black-type win, with an easy all-the way victory in the G3 Ted Baker Ladies' Day Vase at Caulfield.

Shane Nichols' mare franked her reputation as one of the most consistent gallopers going around, with Ben Melham giving her a perfect on-the-pace ride to defeat Kenedna (Not A Single Doubt) and Oregons Day (Domesday).

She will now step to the G1 Myer Classic at the Flemington carnival, a race she won as a 3-year-old back in 2016.

Pedigree notes:

A sister to the Listed Elwick S., winner Band on the Run, I Am A Star is out of the imported mare Star Band (USA) (Dixieland Band {USA}) and was a $40,000 buy at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale who has now won over $1.5 million in prizemoney.

Star Band was unraced but is a half-sister to the European Group 3 winner Common Ground (Spinning World {USA}) and the Listed winner Speciale (USA) (War Chant {USA}). Now based in New Zealand, Star Band has a 2-year-old filly by Iffraaj (GB) and is due to foal to the same sire again this spring.

Listed Village S., Caulfield

Race Summary:

A change of luck saw Brave Song (Your Song) claim his first stakes win in the Listed Ladbrokes Village S. at Caulfield.

The 4-year-old, who endured a chequered run in his previous start at Caulfield, got a perfect ride from James McDonald this time around, tracking up behind the leaders and driving clear late to defeat Addictive Nature (Savabeel) and So Si Bon (So You Think {NZ}).

Having been stakes-placed three times previously, it marks his first black-type win and his fifth overall in a 13-start career for Peter and Paul Snowden.

He is now destined for another stakes race over the Flemington carnival.

Pedigree notes:

Brave Song was a $67,500 buy at the 2016 Classic Sale for Triple Crown Syndications. His dam Brave Choice (Dr Fong {USA}) if a half-sister to black-type winners Brave Prince and Valourina, who is the mother of Media, Timbourina and Cardinal Virtue.

He also joins his Group 1 winning granddam Bravery as well as Spring Warrior, Star Encounter and Armed For Action as Group 1 winners from the family.
