Diddles poised for shot at Gimcrack

Impressive Warwick Farm trial winner Diddles (Snitzel) looks likely to back up in this Saturday's G3 Gimcrack S.

Diddles, who already had a trial win to her credit at the same venue earlier in September, stepped out at Warwick Farm on Monday and put on a thoroughly professional performance, winning by two lengths over the 801m.

She is one of three Clarry Conners' fillies to have nominated for the Gimcrack, which is the first 2-year-old fillies' race for the season in Sydney at Randwick on Saturday.

A $400,000 buy at this year's Magic Millions Sale, Diddles, who is raced by Strawberry Hill Stud, is out of multiple stakes-winning mare, Mimi Le Brock, who won the Magic Millions 2yo Classic.

Conners, who has won the Gimcrack S five times but not since 2008 with Our Joan of Arc (Beautiful Crown {USA}), also has Kariba (Delago Deluxe), who Diddles beat in her first trial, nominated along with Segrill (Sebring).

Trial winners from last week's session at Randwick, Calescent (Sizzling), Honey Go Lightly (Wandjina), Mayaaseh (Exceed and Excel) and Sylvia's Memory (Bianconi {USA}) are also entered in the Gimcrack.

Diddles' time of 47.97s was over half a second slower than the winner of the colts and geldings' trial on Monday, the Joseph Pride-trained and Gooree-owned Absolute Control (Medaglia D'Oro {USA}).

Absolute Control, who is out of stakes-winning mare Gamble Me, travelled deep throughout the trial but proved to strong for Mesmer (Sepoy) with Crown Affair (Snitzel) third.

Absolute Control is not nominated for the G3 Breeders' Plate, with the strong triallers from last Monday again strongly represented in that list.

Covert Ops (I Am Invincible), an eight-length winner in that session is joined in the early nominations by fellow trial winners Donandkim (Smart Missile), Dubious (Not a Single Doubt), Exceed The Stars (Star Witness), Head On (I Am Invincible), Invincible Vision (I Am Invincible) and King's Champ (Deep Field).
