Race Summary
Tomelilla (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}) opened her 6-year-old season in style with an emphatic victory in the Listed Haunui Farm Karaka Classic.
Rider Matthew Cameron had her travelling sweetly in behind the leading pack and when the gap appeared she strode to the front 200 metres from home to put the issue beyond doubt.
“She’s a very honest mare and we gave her a big show,” said Murray Baker, who trains in partnership with Andrew Forsman.
The runner-up Excalibur (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}) is on a path toward the G3 New Zealand Cup and he turned in a solid performance to come from the back for second.
