Looking Ahead - September 9

3 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

On Sunday, we follow a couple of first starters at Sale and take a look at a Zoustar debutante for Chris Munce at the Sunshine Coast

Sale Race 1 - Growmaster Sale 3yo Fillies Mdn - $26,000 - 1200m - 11:45 AEST

Heavenly Barb (I Am Invincible {Aus}) makes her debut for Leon and Troy Corstens off a very good recent jumpout at Flemington where she beat home stakes-winner Miss Gunpowder (Pendragon {NZ}) plus a couple of other very nice horses.

A $260,000 buy from the 2017 Magic Millions, this filly is from a very good family. Her dam Honest Polly (Distorted Humor {USA} is a half-sister the prolific Razor Blade, who has produced black-type winners Flamberge, Sunburnt Land, Durendal and Curtana, while the likes of Doubtful Jack and Sword of Light also feature on the pedigree page.

Sale Race 2 - Carlton Draft Mdn - $26,000 - 1000m - 12:25 AEST

Olive (All Too Hard {Aus)} debuts here for the Mick Kent stable and based on her pedigree alone, may end up being quite a handy filly. She is a half sister to Group winner Stirling Grove out of New Zealand stakes-winner Kalamata {Desert Prince {Ire)}, who herself is closely related to G1 winner Hucklebuck.

Olive was a $140,000 buy at the Ready2Race sale last year and her older full brother Sir Kalahad was a high-price yearling at Karaka in 2016.

Sunshine Coast Race 4 - Shaftesbury Centre QTIS 3YO Fillies Mdn - $15,000 - 1000m - 14:30 AEST

Chris Munce puts forward Zoucara (Zousain {Aus}) for her debut at the Sunny Coast and she looks to have some promise off a recent trial when she was beaten less than a length at Doomben.

The filly is from the former Darley mare Mercara (Commands {Aus}), who is a half-sister to the G1 winning filly Neroli, while another half-sister Pattamada (Viscount {Aus}, produced the Godolphin stakes-winner Bandipur.

Zoucara is drawn wide in this race, but based on her trial, has plenty of early speed and should get across and lead this big field.

Zoucara was a $100,000 Magic Millions purchase
